Thank you. Its going to be a fun restoration. I'm trying to keep it as original as possible. Parts are really not available for them. I have a lead on a parts bike, I just need to convince the owner.

Cool! Maybe some parts you must do yourself...

So far I have found the parts that are missing but they are from other Italian bikes. Yes I agree that the tail on these scoots is one of the sexiest lines I have seen. There are women that wish they were shaped like that. Maybe its that I need to get a life and stop spending my time around scooters.

I spent some time cleaning the engine and looking it over. I was able to get an owners manual and a parts manual on eBay. No one seems to be able to find a shop manual for them, they may never have done one. With my poking around the engine looks like all the other Morinis with its own little twists. Here are before and after cleaning:
Not a big difference. The case is oxidized so it looks dirty. Here is a shot of the case over the transmission:
Anyone have any tricks on cleaning that? I get my ignition switch, carb rebuild kit and gas cap tomorrow. You have to love Treatland, order Friday morning it arrives Monday. I'm anxious to get this running before the cold weather returns.

Thanks for the tip, you guys are so smart. When I do the big clean up on it after its running i'll do that. I could do it in my lawn, I have no grass just weeds. How much baking soda did it take to clean a case?

I got Treats today. The Treatland parts came and they were a perfect match:
As they say at NASA I have ignition. I've found where Itajet sourced their parts, Tomas. for anyone else in the same predicament here are links: Gas Cap Ignition Switch. I know that Scooterpartsco also has the CDI for these as well as a Malossi Fuel petcock. The CDI looks like it might work on the Predator as well, I'll be testing that in the future. The Petcock is for tanks that have a nipple with no threads. You slip it in and clamp it down with a hose clamp. Pictures to follow. I'll be getting one for the Predator soon. I also got the rebuild kit for the Dellorto 12mm PHVA carp so it will get a cleaning and a new set of gaskets. It should be as good as new, wait its only been used for 18 miles it is new. When dealing with these orphaned scooters you need to spend a lot of time searching and looking at pictures. I was always good at identifying identical items and my skills are paying off. Maybe tomorrow I'll get some time on this scoot and have it running.

I was able to pull the carb on Wednesday and open it up, what a mess.
I pulled the jets and they were completely corroded as was the atomizer. The fuel intake to the bowl was clogged, the pin on the float was frozen in place. I sprayed and soaked and it got better but I came to the decision that the passages were probably clogged or severely restricted. I decided that despite wanting to stay original a new carb will probably preserve my sanity. To keep it as close to original as I could I went with the same Dellorto 12mm PHVA that was also used on the Vespa ET2. Scooter Partsco was the only source I found for this, Treatland has all the parts to rebuild it but not the carb. The main jet on the Velo was a 53 so I ordered one. I'm hoping the other 2 jets are close enough to not cause a problem though they seemed to clean up okay. I should have time Mpnday to put it all back together, I just hope the Carb comes early in the day.

Thanks, nice to know. All my aluminum cases are corroded like that, I live too close to the big salt pond I guess. After cleaning the case with soda, is there anything to put on it to prevent more corrosion so fast?

Dang man, I got one of those carbs somewhere. It came on the Derbi Atlantis, I put a 19mm Dell clone in its place.

I have a spare Del 19mm that I could put in but I decided to keep it as close to original as possible. Right now the Petcock will be the only think not original because the original ones were crap.
From what I have found so far someone drilled the stock petcock and lost the fuel filter that sits in the tank. They replaced the fuel line with clear tubing then plugged the vacuum line from the petcock but left the in on the carb open. All of this was probably for nothing because the fuel input on the carb was severely clogged and the float was frozen in place and not working. I managed to get carb cleaner through but it was still clogged or corroded. I hope to have it running next week when I get the carb.

I finally had a couple of days off and I had all the parts I was needing. Putting the new Malossi petcock in was easy. Getting the tanks back on was a bitch they are on the back held on by a strap: It took help from my neighbor for that 3rd and 4th hand. The carb and airbag were a bitch, there was no room and they had to line up perfectly. They are also on the right side with the air box pulling warm air off of the exhaust. I ended up zip tying the air box because there was no room for a clamp. The air box is from Suzuki: Its a Morini engine, I have seen people say Suzuki built the engine. I have no evidence either way. Got the new key switch in and battery. It started right up. Idled nicely, the engine drops when the enricher kicks in. Just as I thought all was well I took it for a ride on my street. It really has some pick up. I got to the corner and it died, idled fine but but died on throttle. I let it sit a few minutes, started right up and was fine until I got to the driveway. Under half throttle I get a little farther. It is definitely fuel starved. I put in back on the bench and ran it at 1/2 throttle and it was fine then nothing. So here is what I did: Pulled gas cap Checked float again Put half a tank of gas in Tried tipping the carb so the float would be a different height. This float is plastic and I don't want to try bending it till I have a replacement. Opened the screw to be sure it was getting fuel and checked the flow. The flow was good. An interesting thing is that when I turned off the tap and emptied the bowl. The fuel stayed in the line. I can't remember the last time I did this but I thought the fuel drained the line. Tried a 50, 53, 55, 58 MJ, the stock was 53. Put the stock idle jet in. The stock plug is NGK BP7HSA I couldn't find one so I went to a BP8HSA and a 6. The HSA is a longer electrode. I tried a BP7HS Checked compression, it was 150psi I'm suspecting the petcock or something is making the flow too low. Does anyone know what that flow should be? Next time I get a chance I'll start working my way back on the fuel line. There are several places that could be suspect. The petcock was a 1/4" nipple and the carb was 3/16" I put in a step down from parts at Lowe's.
I hope one of the genius' here can offer some advice on where to go next. As I said the screws on the carb are on the right side, this is a Dellorto 12mm carb for the ET2. The only problem is the air box covers the side. If I loosen the air box and pull it back a little I can adjust them. Maybe I'll drill a hole in the airbox and put tubes in so I can leave the inbox attached. As for the air box, I opened it and there was nothing. I got some filter foam from a local Tao Tao store. I am missing the screen that holds it back. The tires were close on their pressure.

Sounds to me like it is lean. Is the airbox possibly letting too much air? MJ sounds kinda small to me.
