I just finished working on a song tonight. I decided to try my hand at the GarageBand app for the iPad. Let me know what you guys think of my first attempt at using it. Everything you hear was made 100% from scratch.

Sounds good. I kinda don't know what to think of stuff like this. As someone that plays real instruments it kinda bugs me that people can go out and sped $5 on an app and play guitar better than me. lol It looks like a keyboard/piano player would be able to pick the app up and be making decent stuff real quick. You get to cheat on guitar chords and do 'em in one click. Where the hell is that option on my guitars?
I can't say much though. I had to edit the sounds from my drum kit to get them to work on a song I did on guitar because I can't play drums well enough for heavy music... or any music beyond very basic beats really. It's really difficult to put anything together that way and all the programs I saw were very expensive. Guess I just needed an iPad.

It's actually not quite as easy as it looks. Yes, you can make chords in one click, but you also have the option of playing them note for note. I opted for the note for note option for every instrument. That song took me about 4 hours of work last night. The time flew by like crazy though, because of how involved you get in making it I also play real instruments as well. I can play a bit of guitar, and I'm just getting back into the piano after a long time away from it. I'm a big fan of music, just not a huge fan of most lyrics

I like instrumental and with lyrics. Some people have a knack for writing lyrics that can express things better than I ever could and that's quite a talent or gift as well. One of my old friends writes good music, but lately some of his lyrics or his message is way too political for me so I check out his new stuff just for the instrumental bit. lol He's really good at the songwriting and playing live but I guess his claim to fame is gonna be being a part of the "revolution". :dunno: Last time I called him he tried to convince me that I need to find God in my life so I haven't talked to him for a couple of years now. lol He's talented though so check his music out though, for whatever reason...

Nice job with all the layering. A setup like that would be nice for making music for vids too where you don't need vocals. Most places want quite a bit of money to use their instrumental stuff for video editing. I looked not long ago when making a vid and to buy a pack of a few songs for my video editor is about $100. I'd get the $5 app, but I don't have the $__ iPad. lol

If you know anyone who is currently in school, Apple should be holding a $200 off sale for school people soon. That'd bring the new iPad down to $300.
Here's another one I made the other day:

I've been messing around with this song since yesterday morning, trying to get the left hand part down. I have it down now on both hands pretty well. So ironically, here's the left hand part, played with my right hand. Can't wait to finish it ;D

Awesome tunes !!! Nice !
I have GarageBand on my MacBook, but I just cant figure it out. Aside from not being able to lay the tracks down in a usable manner, if I go straight-in, there are too many latency issues when I get the sound of the guitar right. Very frustrating ! Just straight-up, old skool, 4 track for me . . . Any other suggestions for simpler, guitar based recording stuff ?

They made it 100x simpler to use it on the iPad, that's why I was decent at it

That's gotta be the biggest metronome I've ever seen! Interesting idea.
