I also tend to make a huge mess with that damn coolant. Even though I prepair everything it always goes sideways and I have to clean the floor afterwards.
Those are the times when I miss the simplicity of AC engines.
Nice catch on the piston. Lucky it was just barely touching the engine case. The new crank is gonna give you a peace of mind knowing that there nothing should brake anytime soon.

Well its all back together. Still holding 6 psi. I did have one casualty, I left the temp sensor connected to the head and I had the head resting on the fuel tank. I bumped the bench and it slid off.

I got the engine back in the scooter and its all together other than waiting for a new coolant temp sensor. Instead of just ordering the sensor, I purchased the in-line hose assembly. I am going to install the inline part on the lowest hose and use this as a drain. The sensor will still be going in the head as before. In the mean time I was bored I figured I try fixing the old sensor. I heated it up some and scrapped the epoxy out to get to what little wires that was left in the sensor. I was able to tin the wires and and very carefully rejoin them to the harness. Wrapped the solder joints and used some heat shrink tubing to make a mold for the new epoxy to fill. I heated the epoxy a bit to get it to a liquid consistency and filled the sensor. As it was started to cure, I took the heat gun and started to shrink the tubing which pushed out some of the epoxy and tapered the tubing down to almost the wire diameter. Needless to say, I now have a working spare.

Just to ad to the cylinder swap info, This is my Stage6 Race LC Peugeot cylinder on AF18 cases with .5mm taida base gasket. Not bad out of the box. The peugeot have a 39.1 mm stroke I believe VS the 41.4 of the honda and a slightly larger piston. The head protrudes .055" from the deck and the 2 piece head is easily machined to accommodate

Boiling water test. Top gauge(water sensor) Bottom gauge(CHT sensor) Its funny that the water temp sensor is -4 degrees off and the CHT is +4 degrees off.

I’d rather a gauge to error on the high side rather then reading low. At least you know where they sit.

Like Tom Petty say's "the waiting is the hardest part", I decided to make a couple tools while waiting for parts. Then I realized if the plastics are on, this too would be a pain in the ass to use, so I made another one. 2.0 version. I need to more cautious with my impact tool and crankshafts.

I got this back on the bench and decided to fire it off.
The good:
It runs. No coolant leaks. When I run the exhaust hose into the wood furnace clean out while the furnace is running, from 1/2 throttle and up I get flames out the exhaust hose like the fast and furious cars. LOL
The bad:
Exhaust leak between the 2 piece connection by the cylinder. I also noticed I was blocking the exhaust outlet with header pipe(Turbo Kit TKR pipe) Still a very very slight ticking noise at certain rpm's. Fuel is blowing out the carb if you blip the throttle hard.(never seen this, never ran it without filter)

I use a piece of exhaust wrap at the 2 piece connection on pipes to keep the mess contained. It helps keep the engine and pipe goo free. If you don’t have any I’ll send you a chunk.

For now I put the PG short back on. I have to fix the issue with the other exhaust. I need to extend this piece about 1/4 to 3/8" In this position I am partially blocking the exhaust where it bolts on This is where I need to be.

My TK pipe fit like a glove on the 48mm Taiwanese cylinder. Is that ^^^ caused by the Peugeot EX flange being different?
