G'day all, I have a Kymco ZX50 with a 47mm cyl. kit and 44mm crank. For the past almost year I have been running a race variator from scooter assassins, I have been happy with it for the most part. When the slide bushes wore out I bought a new one, figuring that almost a year is not bad for $35. When i ordered the new one, I told the seller what failed and asked if he could give me some spare slide bushes for the new one to give me a better life from the variator. To his credit he did give me the spares, which I think is excellent customer service, top marks. Unfortunately, the bushes in the new variator wore out rather quickly and matal pieces have pitted my variator belt face and also my clutch pulley faces. That is life. What i would like to ask is, does anyone know of a cvt upgrade I could buy to cope with the engine output? I would like to replace variator clutch and of course belt. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Cheers, Sid.

If Malossi makes an overrange kit for that model, that would be the way to go... if you don't mind spending hundreds. That would include a complete CVT setup that can handle plenty of power and increase low end and top speed gearing.
Your scooter uses the same transmission stuff as a GY6 50 / Dio doesn't it? If so, the Naraku variator I had on a GY6 50 held up well and with a little modding I squeezed even more out of it. The torque driver on the GY6 is already a straight groove, so there isn't a whole lot of gain there. If you wanted to drop cruise RPM, with a bit of sacrifice in acceleration, you could pick up something like Autotech sells that has both straight and dual angle grooves more like a stock unit on some scoots.

G'day 90GTVert, I have just seen the torque driver from autotech355 and wwas interested in the choice of two grooves. I have sent him a message about the dr.pulley clutch, but can't seem to find out if it comes with the bell or what size bell. If I go with the clutch and torque driver from autotech355, where would I get a Naraku variator from and how much? With the malossi setup, is that the lot, variator to clutch, torque driver? Any idea of what sort of price for those? Also, where would I find those? Cheers, Sid.

They are basically a complete CVT setup. Usually around $400. I did a few quick searches and I'm not seeing an OR kit for the Dio or GY6 CVT. I keep coming up with the OR kits for Minarelli and Piaggio. I thought they made them for more applications. I got the Naraku from Enviromoto. I forgot how expensive it is. I ordered it for a customer that never came and paid and picked it up so I used it myself. I don't think I'd pay that for it honestly. I'm striking out for you here. Sorry. enviromoto.ecrater.com/p/4124977/naraku-hs-high-speed-variator

I took my belt out today to confirm the length, turns out that it is 725mm long, as best as I can measure. The ones I see on ebay are 669mm, so that would be leaving me rather short. With regards to the over range variator, they won't make them as there is no room for it, there is only about 1-2mm between the variator and the casting around the starter gear. Gates do a 732x18.5x28 belt, which I don't seem to be able to get in Aus. I have found that Dayco also do a 732x18.5x8mm belt which I hope I can get here, try to find out tomorrow.

Stock clutches usually hold up pretty well on my stuff, and most of us don't need real late engagement that the performance stuff can be better for. If you are having problems with slip it might be worth it, but otherwise there are likely better ways to spend your money. If it's easier to service or adjust, that would be nice. Scrappy sells a 729 Gates. I'd steer clear of the generic belts. www.scrappydogscooters.com/Replacement_Parts.html

Yeah, the clutch is holding ok, I haven't had any problems with belt slip, surprising when you see the condition of my belt. Thanks for the link to the belts at scrappydog. I would like to replace my torque driver as the current one has some pitting damage. I figured on going through and upgrading the lot, but will see what I can find to keep it going. I am running a 1,000 torque spring and 2,000 fly springs which is a set up that I like.
