Hello everyone, after months of unemployment and 2 short stints I have found a fantastic job. I am a scooter mechanic/salesman at a dealership who sells new scooters. I wont disclose the dealers name. But I can tell you that this is probably the best job I've had so far. We sell 2011 scooters and boy, the manufacturers have put all new restrictions on these scooters. the scooter manufacturers also recommend 15w-40 oil now, about time, 10w-30 is too damn thin for these things. We don't carry any 2 strokes. And my co-worker/repairman is as knowledgeable as any of us here. Anyhow, I can now afford my scooter addiction and my bills. I love the feeling of working somewhere doing what you love. Time flies while I fix scooters.

That sounds great worrking. I am still looking myself but I am to working 2 part time jobs on scooters maybe 25 hrs. a week. The big plus is the discount on parts.

Ha ha, I knew someone would be itching to know the new restrictions. They heavily restrict the new carburetors. If you get a 2011+ chinoscoot the carbs do not have accelerator pumps anymore, and the mixture screw is plugged so you can't tune it. just gotta hope that the chinese mother showing up at the graveyard shift for her 3rd job of the day building carbs has set it propperly. You can tap out the metal and access the screw if you have the tools though. But I recommend dumping the OEM and getting a real keihin setup. They also all have these emission systems and they fail and cause vacuum leaks really fast, part of my job is to derestrict the cards and remove the emissions system as part of a detailed pre delivery inspection. If all dealers were like us chinese scoots would be getting a better name I'd love to tell ya'll where I work but obviously it must be kept secret now. But, all the 2011+ scooters come restricted like this now not just the ones we sell. I feel so cool driving up on the lot with my 2T Aprilia, I can take amything on the showroom floor and then some But the job is great, and between me and my coworker we are like the scooter repair dream team. Most customers aren't tuners and we are on staff to make up for that. If you can afford our bikes, you can afford to get them fixed here no matter what the problem is. Oh yeah I almost forget, My coworker argues that if you us a liquid to measure the displacement on a 39mm bore QMB you have a 39cc bike, and what we here call 60cc is actually 50cc. I am going to check this out for myself and I will relay the results to you guys Thanks for support everyone, I hope you all are doing great out there. It's so tough finding work right now.

Measure the actual cubic centimeters by filling the bore with liquid?

Unless the bore or stroke aren't what they are claimed, I don't see how that would work.
At any rate, thank you for the detailed info on the new scoots. I think the idle mix cap is a stupid idea. I'm sure it sounds great to the people that make the rules in the EPA, but I would be quite surprised if you needed the same settings scooting in the mile high city as you would somewhere on the flatlands at sea level. Same with the main jetting where some are using tamper resistant screws to secure the bowl. Can't they get someone on a board there that actually works on stuff?

The other thing I see now also is the needle with no E-clip. We use small washers to raise it up. But like you said Brent, it's really stupid to send out unajustable carbs. Some carbs are correct by chance but we had customers return to us a few days later with a new bike that runs like crap even with the idle screw all the way down. So now, before anyone gets a bike we derestrict the carb, change crank & gear oil and run the bike for a few miles and adjust the tuning before we release the bike. I'd love to tell you all where I work but I'd hate to get us in trouble for derestricitng and De-EPAing bikes. As I continue to work I'll let you guys know what new restrictions I see.

It's just nice to know that there are shops out there that know what they're doing when it comes to these imports. If there were more like you guys maybe the scooters would get a better rep. :thumb: You don't see the dealers of a Honda or Kawasaki lining the scooters in the parking lot, outside in the weather, or selling a scooter without checking it out first.
