Hi! My name's Nate and I'm from Santa Cruz, Ca. I've been scooting around for a couple weeks now on the Rattler 110 that I bought. It's a pretty fun little ride! I got it off craigslist with about 2k miles on it. It came with a variator from Malossi. What do you guys think? Should I put it on? Will it make much difference? Here's a couple pics from last weekend:

Welcome to the forum! Good looking scoot that also quite desirable. Good find for sure. You can put the Malossi on and see how it works, although I doubt that it will work right out of the box. You'll probably need a set of tuning weights in the correct size. It's possible that it might even need a new belt.

Welcome aboard.
It's a nice looking bike you've got there.
I won't even try to advise you on that variator since I have no experience at all with aftermarket parts.
But, then, maybe I will put in my 2 cents: Your stock variator is probably good enough.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, I kind of agree with your guys advice. I think I'll ride the scoot for awhile, and if it starts feeling slow off the line I'll swap it out. I don't wanna open up a can of worms on a bike that already runs fine, plus it seems pretty ...um, grabby when I take off anyway.
The package for the variator has seen better days too and I'm not even 100% sure everything's there. If I get a wild hare, maybe I'll at least go through it a little better.

The Malossi is actually much better, but dealing with setting it up maybe right now isn't worth the trouble. Enjoy the ride!

I feel ya. It ain't broke so maybe I won't fix it. I'm sure the mod bug will bite sooner than later though. Maybe I'll look into the install/set up a bit more. *New guy actually uses the search button*

Welcome Nate. I was actually talking to my wife today about a variator. She told me "I don't want to hear about rollers, or what were those other things, jets." See you might just be opening a big can of worms.

There is one listed on CL here that keeps getting my attention. I just don't have the bucks right now.

Thanks again, you guys. One thing that's pretty strange about the Rattler is the placement of the fuel cap vs the rear rack/handle. It's nearly impossible to fit the key under the handle to unlock the cap. True Chinese ergonomics. lol Been looking at rear racks and it looks like the Prima is the only game in town. Hopefully it'll alleviate my gas cap issue. Does anyone have experience with their products? I just wanna make sure I don't buy something that doesn't fit right or has a history or rusting apart. Here's what I'm eyeballing: www.scooterworks.com/Prima-Rear-Rack-Black-Genuine-Roughhouse-Rattler-P8982.aspx

Welcome Nate! How is Santa Cruz? I lived many, many years in Contra Costa County. Many crazy bike trips to your city on various motorbikes.

Prima seems pretty good, they seem to make a lot of Genuine's after market parts. II had a Roughhouse briefly and that gas cap was a lot of fun to be sure you lined it up right.

FWIW the Buck 10 Rattlers stock vari/CVT is pretty good! Of course the malossi would be an upgrade but it might not be night and day difference like if you were upgrading a crappy variator to begin with... If you think that gas cap is a pain just wait until you're ready to upgrade the intake...
