So, someone wants to trade me my 49cc Beamer for their 150cc Lance Venice. However, the back tire on their scooter doesnt spin. They said it just needs a new tire rod. Any ideas on what other problems it could be? If its an easy fix it would be a nice upgrade and I would be able to go on the highway with it.

It could be as simple as a new belt and as complex as a tranny rebuild.

I dunno what I tire rod is, so I wouldn't trust their analysis too much. An axle would be my best guess at what they think is a tire rod?
Could be the rear brake out of adjustment. Could really be the axle or other final drive transmission problem. Could be a CVT issue. If it revs fine and will rev high but never spin, I'd guess a snapped belt.

hmm, well im going to take a look at it today. it has about 4500 miles on it and its an 08. It would be a good deal if its not a tranny problem. That would cost me more than the bike.

This scooter has the GY6 engine in it right? Would 70 MPH be out of the range of a GY6?

The Lance Venice has a 149cc short case 157QMJ GY6. The short case uses a 10 inch wheel. 50-55 mph is about as fast as they will go. It's not advised to cruise 50+ for long periods with it.

Mine is a gy6 150cc and no serious mods and with my 360lbs. body on it I can hit 60-64 with a calm wind pretty easy. Thats on my vapor unit thats pretty acurate not a stock speedo. With some fine tuning it maybe capable of a little more just not sure how much more. Don't get me wrong, I do love a good tuned 2t but I'm loving the torque and acceleration of my 150 also. Good luck with it either way you go.

why would they make a scooter with such tiny wheels?
So its not advised to cruise over 50 for extended periods? Does this overheat the engine ? I usually cruise on my 49cc for 30 to 40 min

I tell people that because it's Chinese and it's not meant for that. It's to get you from point A to point B economically. It's for tooling around town, not for leaving every red light or stop sign at full throttle or screaming at full throttle on the freeway for 20-40 minutes. It'll overheat and it could blow up or blow a seal and start leaking oil and if you don't realize it's leaking then it'll blow up from lack of oil.
It's a glorified lawn mower engine.

:checkered: Grr, maybe I should have kept my 49cc. I traded because I thought I would be able to get on the highway with this one...or atleast keep up with traffic a little better. But doesn't it have a none chinese engine?

The GY6 is a 4t Chinese engine. It is a copy of a Japanese Honda engine from 30 years ago. You can keep up with traffic much better on the 150cc. You don't have trouble climbing hills. Stock, you can reach 50-55mph. Put some money into it, 60+.

So I finally got the case off and there was a mess in there. The belt was ripeed to pieces and the string from the belt was wrapped around some part behind the variator. Below are some pics
