If this is in the wrong location please feel free to relocate. Kinda new to forum stuff.
2014 49cc Taotao.
The scooter was running fine last week when instantly died. Pushed it back home four and a half miles. Checked everything, stator did not pass test. Had an extra used one, installed it. Went to check the plug, stripped threads completely out when I put it back in. So I ordered and installed a 80cc (listed as a hundred) bbk two days ago. Now I'm pulling teeth and hair out trying to get it to start.
Here's what I've checked, or replaced:
Timing-flywheel marks are on the T. Piston at TDC. The two small holes on cam are parallel with side of head(as parallel as possible. They don't get "exact" lined up but it was that way before when it ran)
Valves-.004 gap on both intake and exhaust
Plug-replaced with ngk. Plenty of spark when tested grounded to engine.
Carb-aftermarket one with adjustment screw. Same one it was using when it quit before bbk install. Haven't taken it apart yet because I don't want to add any more variables than I have to regards to why it won't crank.
Everything else is pretty much exactly like it was when it was running. I have several new parts that I can swap, but like I said above, the less I change before getting some input the easier to troubleshoot I'd imagine.
The one big difference I noticed is the compression. I've always either kick started the bike or used a drill. I think some people frown on the drill technique but it worked forever with no trouble for me personally. I've burnt up three drills over last two days. Not from excessive excessive amounts of cranking, but it's just that much harder on the drill to turn over than before. So I finally figured out why my starter wouldn't work after a couple years. I replaced the bushing/spacer that was missing. After yesterday evening, i've got two starter motors shot. Granted they might've been on their last leg, but one took about thirty seconds, and the other maybe a minute to failure. Lastly, the variator clutch cover cracked open after trying to kick start.
I don't want to give the idea that it's locked up, it's not at all. I got a several small attempts of trying to start during this...I'm going to get a compression tester today to have a number to post. Is this normal after a bbk install? Maybe the two staters were ready to go, and I just need to order a new one, I don't know. Regardless, any help or ideas to get thing this thing running would be awesome.
