Hey gang!
I've been sifting through a few of your pages and I see there's a wealth of information to be found here. I'm a scooter owner from Jamaica and I have a 2003 90cc Yamaha Axis (2-stroke). I believe I have the 1PE50QMB engine, based on what I've picked up here and at other places mentioned by members. She's pretty stock at the moment (if a bit patched up here and there from lack of parts). I've managed to find a few places that may have some parts that I've been looking for since I bought it used a few years ago. Thanks a lot guys!
Now, I'm thinking about adding another scooter to my ownership. I've been paying attention to the goings on and I think the Vento Zip is the one that interests me the most. But I have a few questions, I hope I can get some answers here.
1) Does the Zip come in a 4-stroke 50cc version? If so which years was it available? 2) Do all Zips come with rear discs? If not which ones do? 3) Does the Zip use an AC or DC CDI system? 4) Do Zips come with a restricted CDI (or any other restrictions)? 5) How do Zips stand up to big bore kits larger than 72cc? 6) Are Zips really the fastest 50cc Chinese scooters? How fast do they go stock?

1) The Zip was made in a GY6 50 version. I think they started around 2007 and the model was the Li. 2) The early ones should be rear drum. Some later models have rear disc, maybe all later models? 3) The 2T would be AC. Not sure about the 4T. 4) I know the 2T models often came with a washer in the variator. Not sure about the 4Ts. 5) :dunno: 6) Zips are some of the quickest 49cc Chinese scoots stock as I understand it. There are clones and other models comparable. If you want the fastest you'd be looking for the Triton or similar scoots with longer gears. All of this of course refers to the 2T versions. The 4T models won't be as lively stock.

1) I saw a Youtube vid of a Zip Li and that's the vid that caused me to be interested in the Zip. I love what I see. I have nothing against a 2-stroke (since I already run one), but performance parts for them seem to be a tad more expensive. Here's the vid:
2) The Li in the above video (4T?? and rear discs) is exactly what I'm looking for. I can deal with either 2T or 4T, but I just can't deal with drum brakes (even though my Axis has them). I hate seeing them, hate dealing with them. I know that front brakes account for 80% of braking anyway, but if rear discs didn't have a purpose then sport bikes, sport cars, and airplanes wouldn't have them. Known what I mean? Are there any drum-disk conversion kits available out there, BTW?
3) I suppose I'll just have to wait until I get one to see what sort of current runs through the CDI.
4) What effect would removing that washer have on reliability? I've seen where somebody here was saying not to do it because it caused an issue. Can you comment on that?
5) I've seen where your yellow Triton had good reliability with the 70cc kit you had it. (I saw your Youtube vid, BTW...good stuff).
6) When I get it I'll see just how quick it is. All I NEED is 45mph solid (plan to keep it in FL). Anything after that is gravy. Failing that, my plan of course is to upgrade as soon as I get it in my grubby little hands.
FWIW, my Axis gets to 80km/h (50mph) on flat ground with no problem at all, and does 95km/h (60mph) easily on a downhill. Of course that's INDICATED and never been GPS or otherwise verified.

2) Yeah, discs are nice even if not totally necessary. Don't know of a conversion kit. I'd imagine there's one out there somewhere?
4) shouldn't really have an effect on reliability. Just make sure that the variator can bolt down securely. If not, add a washer outside of the pulley. The washer just spaces the pulley farther apart and makes it less capable of speed. The bright side to it is that you might have better takeoff, because the belt can ride farther down in the front to give a little better gearing off the line.
5) That thing was an ideal scenario. I couldn't have been more pleased with it... other than I'm always looking for more. lol It was a cast iron 70cc kit, MRP pipe, CVT tuning, stock airbox, and I never even had to upjet. That's a rarity though.
6) I'd go 2T if looking for 45MPH solid cruising speed and still expect to mod at that rate. Either that or hope your speedometer is really optimistic. lol Think about the fact that your 90cc 2T does just 5MPH more than you want out of this scoot that's a bit over half the displacement and then remember that 2Ts usually make more power than 4Ts.

Whats up man. Nice to you meet ya. For what you want, I say go 2T 49cc Zip. Doubt you'll find it with a rear disk; but ya never know. I say the 2T Zip because, Not even necessary to switch the intake system out for that. Only minor jetting is required. Will probably only need a set of #80-#100 Main Jet's, and could just stick with the stock pilot jet (the stock one works just fine if you leave the airbox on, and set the screw accordingly). Either way, looking forward to checking it out!

@ 90GTVert: Thanks for the input. Like I said, I have no problem going for a 2T, but would be looking for a 4T if I can find it. Oh...I totally forgot, I do have one mod on my Axis. I have a "free flow" intake. Let me explain. The stock air box was destroyed (those pesky speed bumps!) by the time I got it so I swapped it for a cone filter. That idea was a disaster because it started running to lean. I had to put a restrictor plate (fashioned from a piece of plastic) and carefully adjusted the air screw and the main jet until I got it running more or less pretty well. I'm still after an airbox and I think I see one that will work at Scrappydogscooters so I may treat myself to it for my birthday. I kinda dig the idea of putting some work into the scooter after I get it (I'm kinda technically and mechanically inclined) so spending some time and energy for the 4T gains would be fine. @ drawkward: Thanks also for the greeting and the advice. You mentioned that you doubt I would find a Zip with rear discs. The one in the video I just linked above has discs at the rear. Are you saying that the 2Ts hardly come with discs or is that a general situation with Zips on a whole? You being biased to the 2Ts is fine. I've ridden my neighbour's 150cc 4T scooters (he's got three that when put together don't even make one, to be honest) and I'm simply not impressed. I rode my Axis back to back with his newest (got it last week) and I was still blown away with mine. As old and as patched up as she is, she still hauls tail. Obviously though, the 150 is far smoother, quieter, and less smelly than my Axis, but such is life. I hope a new air cleaner box will solve the noise issues.

If your not a heavy person a good running Zip will do 50MPH stock, no hill.
