My luck continues with the SunL. Scrappydog sent me a 150cc flywheel. I'm impatient, so I knocked the key out of the crank and I'm gonna use the degree wheel to install the stocker 4 degrees advanced.

Got it back together... well enough to ride. First, watch the last vid of it going.
Now watch the vid I just made.
Think it's a little better? Of course I had to adjust the idle speed down a lot. I adjusted the mixture quite a bit as well. Still probably off some, but better. In the same 1/8 mile that I was doing 30-32MPH I went 40MPH on my first test pass. ;D Reminded me of why I hate the brakes it has, but otherwise very cool. Thanks to everyone for their input, and a special thanks to John's good ear! ;D
I'm going out to mess with it a little more. I know it needs a heavier contra and/or lighter rollers.... unless the plug looks way off... then I'll be messing with jetting again.

lol I've got my fingers crossed. I haven't had time to do anything really. I went to work on it and a friend called that I haven't talked to in a long time. I did check the plug and it looked lean now with the 95. I stuck a 102 in there and the phone rang. Now I'm getting ready to eat, but I did take it for a decent WOT pass to have another look at the plug. It's windy, and I managed this sitting up with the trans still in need of tuning and possibly in need of a different jet still. Oh, in typical TurdL fashion the battery has decided to give up for the most part. It will take a charge and operate lights and stuff, but it can't handle the load of starting. It was like that before, but I figured I'd let the battery sit on the Battery Tender while it was down and it might be OK. Nope. lol You can dress it up, but you can't take it out.

Either the SunL really doesn't wanna go faster or it's trying to keep me in shape.... First it got my heart rate up, then it made me walk a mile. I was going out to test 5.5g rollers and a 1K contra. I got a mile away and was only doing 40 still. Next thing I know it locks the rear tire and skids. I pushed it back home to find this...

I'm fine. It swerved around and I was nervous for a moment because I didn't have my helmet on for the test pass. Left a little skid mark on the road and amused some people on their porch watching. lol

It's still not much power. I may find it with the proper tune, but I don't think so. It can take off, but it just doesn't have the horsepower like the 2Ts to pull a heavy person like me easily to higher speeds. I would like to try the 150 carb again, but I do wish I could find the oddball pilot jets. At least luckily I did decide to order a spare belt for this scoot and my 2Ts with the flywheel. Forecast says rain Today(Sat)-Wed though . I was really hoping to get somewhere with it last night for that reason.

It's not raining yet, so I got out early this morning to start cleaning out belt bits and dust. I got that done and decided took a quick test ride. The top end just felt flat. I decided to swap the 150cc carb back on to see if it would help. It doesn't seem right having a 19mm carb with a 21 or 22mm inlet on the head... but the 50cc carb did work better with the timing wrong. I dropped the idle speed and adjusted the mixture and went for a test spin with the 115 main jet in place. Immediately I could tell a difference in part throttle power. The 150 carb requires less effort to get going. The top end still felt very flat, so I checked the plug and it now showed lean. It felt very rich before the timing change. I moved up to a 125 and tried again. Now it felt too rich wide open, but the plug looked a bit lean still. What I did notice though, was that the timing indicators on the plug looked like I had too much timing both WOT and initial. The pic really doesn't show it well. The WOT timing mark was past the arch of th eground electrode completely. I moved the pickup to it's stock position and tried again. Top end felt less flat, but it still felt rich on WOT. Here's the plug after the run with the timing backed down. Notice it actually starts to show it's true color when the timing is correct. Once again, not a great pic, but the timing mark moved to the middle of the arch in the ground electrode. I swapped to a 120 and it feels much better up top. It still lacks power and I think I need to tweak the trans more, but it's better. I must be doing something wrong still though. As I've said before, so many folsk claim 50MPH with just a 70cc kit a UNI and a rejet and I've got a fresh build, 80cc, big valves, big intake, big carb, longer duration cam, UNI, all port matched, Kitaco Super Coil, exhaust, and so on and still have a max of 44.5MPH so far. Granted, I am fat... but still... I think Jeremy weighs or weighed in the ballpark of what I do and he's told me about doing these speeds and greater with his 70cc kits and minimal accompanying mods.

I got a little more tuning in before it started raining. Not much. With 6.25g rollers I got to 40MPH in a given stretch for tuning at a max of 7,300RPM. With 5.5g rollers I got to 41MPH at 8,300RPM. I went a little farther and it topped out at 45ish... it got to 44.5 and then the gauge decided to act up for a second. My driveway was right ahead and it was raining so I didn't keep going until the gauge came back to normal. I think my speedo might be slightly low. I'm very used to traffic around here and I'd say I'm a couple MPH under what I'm really doing. Either that, or everyone is driving just a little slower today. It just amazes me how this thing doesn't seem to repsond to RPM changes that much. 1000RPM difference and it's running about the same. I figured I'd be shooting for 9000+ RPM with this thing since it's got a cam and dcent flowing carb, intake, head... not so sure seeing the results so far. If anyone knows what these things are supposed to like, lemme know so I can make a more dramatic jump in roller weight if necessary to try that RPM range.

The rain cleared up so I stuck 4.5g rollers in there. 43MPH on a long stretch at 8,800RPM. I think peak power is between about 7,000-8,000 RPM, so somewhere between the 6.25 and 5.5 rollers will likely be the best for this setup. MY stupid little town is playing with their radar sign again. I was hoping to adjust the speedometer with it. They put it up somewhere for a day then you gotta find it again then they put it back at the shop out of use. Just set the damn thing in front of my house and I won't have to speed in town! ;D
