Hey guys,
New to the forum, in fact, this is my first post. I have a 2013 tao tao 50cc 4-stroke scooter and it won't start. I got this scooter not running. I was told that he replaced the spark plug, the spark plug cable, battery, the carburetor and the cdi. I sprayed starter fluid in the carb where the intake is and cranked it and nothing happened. The engine is not seized. any suggestions? Any help will help! I went to check the spark plug and looked new but maybe it's not the right plug?
Thanks, PortzJ04

Might not be the right plug. What is the part number?
Hows your cam timing, ignition timing, and compression?
I dont remember if you said this but check valve lash. .002-.003 inch is appropriate.

I think its the valve lash. For my taotao is just needs to be .002-.003 inch? What should I tighten the spark plug down to? When I start to tighten it, it has a little resistance which is weird to me. On my dirtbikes and car the spark plugs are rather easy to screw in and you can tell when you need to stop. I don't know if it is just because it's a small engine, but I do not want to strip it.

Plug looks right, might not be high quality. Def should check that lash if you havent yet. Typically a plug threads in by hand until its seated. You could try a thread chaser if you wanted. But not much you can do for that other than changing the head or a helicoil.

Get rid of that plug and get yourself an NGK CR7HS or equivalent name brand plug. The Chinese plugs are junk and can fail at any time. I had a friend with a new scoot that called and said it wouldn't start. Saw the cheap Chinese plug and changed that before doing anything else and it fired right up. Even if the plug is not the issue now, I'd suggest doing that. www.49ccscoot.com/faq/wontstart.html

The spark plug is not sparking at all when I test it. The fuel from the tank isn't getting past the Vacuum Fuel Pump Petcock, I will clean it out. Also, the fuel line wasn't even connected to the carb. I also have few other parts that seem they need to go on things. I'll post some pictures later. Here is the fuel petcock that the fuel won't go through.

start with the spark plug. If still no spark, make sure no kill switch or alarm is on and check the exciter and pickup as shown in the link I posted.

Connect a length of tubing to the top(in the above image) fitting, and apply suction. The bottom two should be connected to the fuel line from the tank and the fuel line leading to the carb inlet. If you get fuel flow when applying suction, connect the line to the carburetor. The connection is on the kickstand side of the carburetor, sort of near the rear, pointing straight out from the carb. Put the loose spark plug into the socket it normally is connected to. Lay the plug on the engine so the metal part is contacting the bare metal of the engine. Crank the engine. If no spark, get another plug, and re-test. You can use about any spark plug to test with, from a lawnmower to a 429 V8. An old spare should work fine. No spark result points towards other ignition components, which you can test per the above helps. tom

The tool to check valve lash is a feeler gauge. You should be able to get them at local auto parts stores. Make sure the set you get goes down to at least as low as 0.002". Pic 1 is prob the air inlet for the PAIR system. Pic 2 is the crankcase vent. Usually runs to a spot on the airbox. Pic 3 is likely a spare connection for a kick stand safety switch for models that came with it. Pic 4 possible a turn signal flasher without the housing? www.49ccscoot.com/pics/Wiring%20Diagrams/2017_TaoTao_Thunder_Diagram.jpg
