Pictures from Wednesday. Got the engine buttoned up and reinstalled on the frame. Started to get the tuner wired up, but stopped for the evening when my stomach started growl.

Today. I got the wiring for the Malossi tuner finished. It starts and idles. I was going to toss the seat lid on and take it for a quick spin around the block, but i heard thunder and didn't really feel like getting rained on. I'll probably finish buttoning up the panels and all that on Saturday, then take it out for a shakedown, then work on getting the variator and clutch installed and tuned. I was looking through the owner's manual to see if Yamaha specified any special type of coolant and and caught this out the corner of my eye. Apparently, there is a cat in the exhaust.

It's probably a very basic catalytic converter. Nothing like you find on cars.

This morning I took off all of the front plastic to run the wire for a Trail Tech tachometer. After getting that installed, got all of the panels put back on and mounted the Malossi Force Master 0 tuner. Before installing any more parts, I went for a romp or two up the road to the closed track to make sure that there weren't any issues with the cylinder kit. It was really torquey, and I didn't gain any speed, but it did get up to speed a lot faster. I got the new Malossi variator ready to install, and since I needed to remove the clutch to replace the belt anyway, I went ahead and tossed the Reveno one on there. I experimented some with different variator weights, got a top speed of just over 49 mph(with a tailwind). The max rpms I got was a bit over 8900, but I haven't messed with the different fuel maps yet, and I'm not sure I completely trust the tach either. I need to dig out my old timing light that has a tach on it to verify if this thing is reading correctly. I also have not installed the gear kit yet, not sure if I want to do that yet or try a slightly taller rear tire first, just because the tire is a little easier to undo if i don't like the results. This thing has a lot more grunt on the hills, it will actually accelerate up hills that used to slow me down. It makes the winding road home closed course actually fun now, I had a big ____ eating grin on my face as I pulled up the driveway. I could probably not do anything else to it and I don't think I would be dissatisfied. I also installed some performance enhancing stickers.

Also, while studying the cvt cover for ways to vent it, I realized that there are stand-offs at each of the bolt holes to protect the gasket from being smooshed, they are about 2mm tall, so it leaves a gap if I just leave the gasket off.
For anyone planning on splitting their C3 in half to install a cylinder kit: if you leave the fuel injector bolted on when separating the two halves, be careful. The fuel injector is rather close to the crossmember where the front of the seat tub bolts to. I noticed mine coming in contact with it during reassembly, it wouldn't have taken much to have broken it while pushing and pulling to get those pivot bolts lined up.

The trail tech rpm gauges are very accurate they are measuring the pulse from the spark plug.
I agree with you on get bigger/better tires to improve gear ratio and handling. On my vinos 50 mph is fast enough for the suspension and brakes so I skipped adding gears I upgraded to aftermarket shock that allowed me to adjust the preload .
The taller tire and better variator added a couple miles up top but most of all the tires soaked up bumps and cornered better .

50 mph is enough for this otherwise stock scoot. I'm pretty sure that I read that a 130/90-10 will fit in the rear without having to remove the rear fender, so I guess I'll try a pair of those.
Part of the what got me to dust this thing off was to save fuel money, but no, I had to start tinkering with it... ...now I'm fast approaching the original purchase price in parts. But at least it puts a smile on my face when I'm riding or wrenching on it.
Now I'm curious to find out what 70ccs does to the fuel mileage, I might toss one of my MSR fuel bottles full of gas in the trunk until I find out.

Your gas mileage will still be twice as good as your car .
That savings alone you can use to justify some upgrades .

Neither one of my trucks get more than about 15 mpg around town, so not hard to improve on, but my commute is only 13 miles round trip, so my fuel expenses are hardly earth shattering. My complaint above about the expense was mostly sarcasm. The time spent tinkering, wrenching and riding is worth every penny.

Went ahead and reconnected the flux capacitor... I also pulled the Reveno clutch off and reinstalled the stock one. The engagement on the Reveno is just too harsh if you are maneuvering or taking off in a confined area, or on gravel. I may check with what his name from Rolling Wrench and see if there is any way to tune the Reveno.
