Hi all
New to this forum so apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place. I've recently become the proud owner of a 2007 Honda Zoomer (Ruckus). I'm in the UK so sadly it is restricted to a paltry 28 MPH which is not only slow but also quite dangerous when dealing with heavy traffic so I've been looking at getting it derestricted. I'm not bothered about getting the absolute maximum out of it but just a little extra top speed and better performance up hill would be nice. So far I've had it fitted with a polini variator which has increased top speed to about 35 MPH on the flat but it is hopeless up hill (as slow as 15 MPH on a steep incline) so I'm looking for a CDI to remove the rev limiter. Only issue is I cannot seem to find one for a fuel injected Zoomer. I made the costly mistake of purchasing a POSH CDI from Japan assuming that it would work on the basis that Japanese Zoomers are also fuel injected however upon receipt and taking it to my local garage I've found out that it will only work on carburetor equiped Zoomers. Polini used to make CDIs for fuel injected Zoomers but I can't find one anywhere and they appear to no longer make them so I've been searching for a CDI that will work but cannot find any, most sites that sell aftermarket CDIs are foreign and the translations aren't great and I don't want to get stung again like I did with the POSH CDI. So my question is if anyone knows of any CDIs that will remove the rev limiter on a fuel injected Zoomer?
Many thanks
Ed

I don't see how the fuel delivery method has anything to do with your ignition system

that was my thinking as well but apparantly it does. I've only recently got into biking again after a near 20 year break, I'm used to 2 stroke and carburettors so 4 stroke and fuel injection is a whole new world for me!

Happypancake! knows of some fuel injected CDIs. I had a link from him to a Japanese site. You can put them on Honda Met's (also FI). They might work on a Zoomer considering a Met is basically an FI Ruckus under all the plastics. EDIT: It's a thing that reprograms the system... kinda like putting a racing chip in a car.

I'm not familiar with the Honda Zoomer but there is a possibility that you have a ECU and not a CDI. With EFI there are a hundred ways to skin a cat.
A ECU is basically a computerized system that handles the job of spark delivery and fuel delivery.
The manufacturers' incorporate whatever parameters they deem important and design them as ECU inputs. Can be things like throttle position, ambient air temp, exhaust temp, barometric pressure, detonation, even a switch for using bad/ethanol fuel. The ECU monitors the inputs, makes a decision and sends outputs to time the spark and inject the proper amount of fuel.

yeah... you are right. It's not a CDI. It plugs into the ECU.
