So, this happened to the original variator in my 161QMK GY6 engine. All 3 of the guides sheared off completely. I've been using a smaller one for the time being, at the cost of some performance. Looking to replace it with something stronger. I think it's 115mm(maybe bigger) and the only one I can find is in China, and it looks just as cheap as this one. Any advice or links would be appreciated.

PartsForScooters has multiple options for the GY6 and they tell the OD in the specs. I had a DrPulley for my 150. It did great for acceleration and it and the one I have for a 49cc are top notch as far as quality. My only complaint was that it didn't work as well for me with top speed. I think my setup liked to rev out more up top than the DrP seemed to allow. Clips of stock vs DrP below if they're of any interest. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY5lx7QqEwk

I'm curious to know if you did any mods to allow the movable sheave to move farther away from the ramp plate than normal? Like making so the sheaves move closer together to get the belt to climb higher?
Do you think with your aftermarket parts that the ramp plate was raising higher on the guide towers then normal and took off the tops due to that?

That's what happens on Chinese variators when the guide slides let go. The steel backing plate will snap off the soft aluminum guides. Here's what you want: www.partsforscooters.com/169-24A little secret, this is the variator that a bunch of the GY6 tuning shops are putting in their pre-built motors. Also, it's Taiwanese. Good stuff. Matt

No engine mods either. What Matt said fits the description though.

Thanks for the info.

IMO, do it. I tried them in a few apps and now I use sliders in everything from my stock TaoTao to my 2T with an over range to my 500cc TMAX. The difference in wear vs rollers is what really sold me, and sometimes they will outperform rollers. I still have to replace them occasionally, but I don't get regular flat spots anywhere near as frequently as with any rollers that I've used and I have used rollers from cheap junk to Malossi and DrPulley. FYI : If you end up dealing with PFS, there's a 10% off code for one order till the end of this month (STOCKUP19).
