Could it just be in the gearing? Cause on steep hills it slows down and can hardly hold 20mph. Feels like it has no torque. That is something I wanna work on, more bottom end torque.

Well problem came back. I think it went away cause its been cooler outside the past few days. Back up to normal temp today and problem came back. So now we know temp is part of it. What would cause a GY6 to make a loud rattle/very fast tapping noise once very warm. Valves I know. But I just checked them and I put them to .002". So lets break down the logic here I guess.... honestly I would say valve float... but this thing is stock. Maybe it is, but that means there is a problem. Weak valve springs? Ideas? HELP?

I have had 4 scooters this summer (one to keep 3 to sell) with the same body style as the Tao and all 4 had 47mm bore (72cc). all the titles say 49.5cc. they were all restricted down with small main jets and terrible airboxes. I am starting to believe that this is more common than i first thought. my experiences over this summer have shown me that the Chinese are sneaky as hell too and will do anything until caught. in this case its nice for us though.
About the problem you are having...so it rattles when hot. i wonder if it has a bad oil pump?
also make sure that the inner valve springs were not left out. take the valve cover off and look in there with a flashlight to see.
Before i put my 83bbk on, i did the following: 5.5g rollers (helps greatly with hills) 88 main jet uni filter blue tzr-50 racing cdi (timing advanced for better performance) these things really woke it up. the cc's were already there since it was a 72 from the factory just needed more gas, air and low speed rpms to take advantage of the bigger bore.
About roller weights. not all of these engines are created equal. Some say they have to use 8g rollers and some say 5g. other factors come in to play with variator tuning like weight of the rider etc.. best to get different sizes like 6, 7 and 8 grams then mix and match them for best results. the lighter the weight the better acceleration you will have but you will may suffer on the top end. heavier weights make for better top end if you have the HP to back it up but you may suffer on hills and low end. Trans tuning on a cvt takes patience but pays off in the long run.

after reading this again i think the sound you are hearing is heat related spark knock. make sure to run the highest octane gas you can find. I bet you have been putting 87 in it havent you? are all your engine shrouds in place? got leaves in the fan?

I just learning about the weights inside the tranny and thinking i need to try heavier ones, but how heavy?keep in mind i weigh 140lbs but it still dose the same thing when i put my 120 pound wief on the back with me.It dose seem like it wants to go faster but i really dought 47mph...this scooter stuff sure is addictive!!!i wanna go faster!!any sugestions

i suggest getting a new unseald carb before anything. the taotaos are bad for running real lean and hot and i suspect this is why i have seen 3 in a row that needed ring jobs after 1000 miles or less (2 of them already had a ring job before i saw them). plus you need an unsealed carb because it will have to be tuned to your other performance mods when you do them. this is a real good one www.ebay.com/itm/170769236151?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
