I am one of those elderly people on a fixed income.
But to get back to container ID's etc. They can't even track coal shipments from best Korea. Container ID's and paperwork can be changed mid voyage, even ship names can change. Containers and goods from China can suddenly appear as goods from Taiwan or Vietnam or India or....

Lilpenny, That is a beautiful statement of truth. How can more people see this? Books, man. Lot’s of books. I'd read about President Warren G. Harding right now. Even his Wikipedia entry is a good starter. Sorry if I went on a rant for a little bit. That wasn’t my intention. But while I’m here I’ll add... that starting 40-50 years ago they began doing the same thing with religion. If they can make a certain segment of society feel morally superior to others (no matter your color or where you are from, but more like LGBTQ people these days, or abortion) then they can pick your pocket the same way. You think all these white male politicians care about abortion? It’s about the money. I’m done!

I’ve heard some guys in Columbia sneak in containers once in a while... I heard it’s not cheap to make it happen. 😀

A whole ship is easier than one contraband container.

A whole ship is easier than one contraband container. LoL... maybe. Maybe. And really all my knowledge of this subject is based on watching “The Wire” on HBO. But I think you want to have a container full of stuff that is a needle in a haystack. Ships are tracked, but you can look the other way, for a price, on the payload. Now I’m not saying that someone won’t try to sneak in goods from China like that... I’m just saying that if they do it won’t be a container full of scooter parts. Maybe Huawei network gear with a bunch of fentanyl stuffed around the sides, but not scooter parts. 🙁 I’m joking, I’m joking! Who knows, maybe there will be scooter parts.

Yeah it just stinks elderly on fixed incomes 1k to 1400k don't have much room for error right now this will put more stress and pressure on them . President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, (and I’m quoting here, this isn’t me saying this) "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Except now days switch “colored” with “brown” or “Chinese”. The political class has been doing this forever. It’s a shame. So if they can get us to hate the Chinese (which we don’t, nor do we hate brown people for that matter) then we’ll pay more and all that money goes to the government... and the elderly and otherwise people of limited means get screwed... but what Johnson is saying, is that if you can convince them to hate “those people” enough, they won’t mind putting a second mortgage on the house. Dumb. I can agree with that statement , If we all had a conversation with "Those people" we would all find out we are 95% alike just from different parts of the world or country . lol Yeah man hate is poison kills minds and dreams progress and happiness

It's just not that easy , If China was going to get stuff over here with 25% Tariffs and they serious wanted to . They would just drop the wholesale price way low making 3,5,8 % and flood the market. It's way easier to do it like that and continue selling product and making a profit rather than make 0 and attempt to backdoor product. We are already hooked on the discount only model we won't stop buying. And they will continue to move product here even at marginal profit to keep you hooked ! lol

That ship sailed a long time ago. because We let it Sail We didn't let it sail, we prepped that ship and purposely put it out to sea... and no, it wasn't just politics that made that happen. A shift in societal focus ensured that it would happen. It's the same reason that we don't have enough plumbers, electricians and contractors in the pipeline now. Okay, rant over. Matt

Maybe we could just start to manufacture things in the U.S. Again Cushman II . . linkCSC started out with a similar business model . . link Cushman came out and wanted us to be a dealer when i was in business. That is a bitching product but the price killed it for us at 3500 and up they would have just sat no matter how hard i advertised them ! Only people in their 50's and up remember them , and that mustang was a nice little ride but they had the same issue . The Us scooter market is only loyal when gas prices hit 4 bucks and up lol They swear by scooters then !
The Chinese scooters in my opinion warped the mind of the American buyer so all they see is cheap , i am not saying cheap is bad cause the low end scooter is much needed in the market ! That is how you get people on Higher quality scooters and parts and small cc motorcycles starting out ! We can make stuff here but as long as the US consumer has that disposable products attitude we are screwed .
