A visiting a friend a friend yesterday who has been tracking these for about 30+ yrs. I have not seen him for a year and he showed me some casts he took wwhen he and his 20yr old daughter went hunting/ tracking them ( not to shoot I hasten to add ). There are stories of these creatures all over the UK over the centurys, had a few mates seen them, plus we got about 40 square miles of forestry around us known as the green desert with little habitation. All the time he been going out he marks the area with his own scent where they are ( urine I not sure why should have listened more ). So he can get fairly close to them and says after all these yrs you can intuitively know when you are close to them plus they both use use gilly suits as well.
In the last year he has has bought a thermal imager from the States and said had to prove id and sign a declaration about something or other. ( I Should have listen again ).
Well when out with it in the snow one night they saw them through the thermal imager at the hide/lair of the leopards and got within about 20 yds or less I think he said and the feline kept popping her head up and down but due to their stealth and gilly suits did not see them for a while and when she moved she picked up her cub and was off and they retreated so as not to disturb her to much.
I asked if he or his daughter was frightened at all they might be attacked but they said no they not that hungry as yet as birmingham and I think manchester council unwittingly feed them by dumping there city foxes in countyside once a month by the van load alive as they dont want to kill them. The thing is city foxes are not as suss as the country foxes as they have easy pickings in cities for food but not in the middle of nowhere. I have seen them being dumped off myself up near us about 20 yrs ago.
History of leopards date from about 04 AD when the romans came and leopards were classed as a stutus symbol and as they moved on most were set free apparantly some to do with Emperor Augustine. Again in the 70's the UK bought out the dangerous animal act and some were released in the wilds then, 2 for definite round here by Ken the Thief that had them to guard his scrap yard.
Him and his daughter have accouted for upto 20 females and 1 male so far but this is in a very large area.
It was explained as what the creature was doing as back pad was sliding but I did not take it all in if anyone wants to know more I will ask him but he wont give away area's or where they are as dont want people hassling them or hunting them for tropheys.
