Just bought a new tao tao 125cc four wheeler that has constantly blown batteries due to over charging. Usually works ok for the first hour of riding then when we turn it off for a brief time and come back it wont start. Gone through 2 batteries 2 regulators and tried a different stator... With a new battery the voltage will just keep climbing from 12.8 up to around 17v. Right after start up. This 4 wheeler is brand new and the strange part is we bought a brand new one and returned it to the dealer where they gave me another new one and the second atv is doing the same exact thing as the first. Im tired of going back and forth 3 hours to the dealer. So any help would be much appreciated.... Not too electrical savy but know enough to get in trouble.

They are all leds. i just changed the regulator again. This time with one from an old honda. The voltage is not shooting up to 15 and 16 anymore but staying at 12.72 which i feel is a bit low. Makes me wonder if this one is working at all. Even reving it to 50% it stays at 12.72 or so.

Find good regulator first ,that is low it could keep you charged if you ride everyday for 30 min or so ! Are you grounded properly ? does it have one ground or two or three? Some have one battery to motor only , battery to motor and frame all one lead? Two separate grounds one on the motor to frame one from frame to battery? Make sure you grounds on the frame are clean of paint or powder coat.. On a Chinese scooter if you get 13. 13.1 at idle your good and if it jumps to 13.8 14.4 15. when reeving your good . Not every scooter charging system is text book 14.4 15.5

Well right now i am waiting for another regulator. There are only two grounds. One from battery and one from harness. Both are going to top bolt of the flywheel cover. Which shows to be good ground using a meter but is indeed powder coated.

Put the OEM regulator back on and take it back to the dealer. Two ATV's with the same problem is a dealership problem. Ask for your money back and go to a different dealer.
