Im having a issue with fuel filters not lasting more than a few miles on 2 different scooters , both 50cc.
I am using good clean gas and haven been able to see anything at all in the fuel filters. When I blow through the filters I can feel a light restriction .
These fuel filters are from Autozone and for a car. I am suspecting the filter paper may have too small of pores for the stock vacuum fuel pump to push through.
I am wondering if a Mikuni fuel pump would fix my issues? If so what part # pump ?
50cc engines 3/16 fuel line maddog 50 and a taotao future champion. Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance

I guess I've had good luck with stock paper filters for 13 k miles among two scoots.

I guess I've had good luck with stock paper filters for 13 k miles among two scoots. You must have
Many people haven't, so why should anyone rely on 'luck' when good alternatives are available that don't require luck. The Kohler #2505021s1 filter has a fine plastic mesh that is even reusable. They can be had for about $5-6 each.
I have also found them at farm supply stores, Northern Tool, auto parts stores, and small engine shops.
The Kohler #2505021s1 filter has 3/16 & 1/4" inlets. The Kohler #2505022s1 filter has 1/4 & 5/16" inlets

Not sure which scoot you have but my Yamaha CS50 (Europe only) has the filter hidden away in the petcock and I only found it 3 years after I bought the scoot

I picked up the two on FrankenMech advice that he listed and they be great and have swapped them between scooters. Bit more in cost than auto stores but damn sight more cost effective.

I use lawn mower filters from Walmart or AutoZone in a pinch, order a pack of 10 scooter filters in the mean time.

I saw a plastic mesh filter in the small engine or lawnmower repair area of Oreally's. The inlet and outlet fittings were fairly small, but it had no markings. It was $7-something. I was picking up parts for my weedeater. New plug, primer bulb, air filter, etc. I now have to see if my weedeater runs after my repairs. It has been sitting for almost three years. The odds are not good...

Unless the metal element is stainless steel it will corrode from water in ethanol fuel. The corrosion will either block the filter or crumble the element. The wire mesh should be OK on the 3/16" filter and should be re-usable.
BTW, the weedeater was scrapped and a new one was obtained.
