as the title says this winter ole scooty puff sr. is in desperate need of a paint job and i found the color i really want to go with this year finally. ive had a few ideas but couldnt decide as i wanted something visible and this is the one once i stumbled across it. problem is im not a painter im good at alot of things but never had a ton of exp painting with sprays. my time as a mechanic i started having to rattle can things at customer requests and had quite a few ppl that paint high dollar things tell me im in the wrong business including offer me a job after watching me spray things or see the end result. apparently i was doing something right. i had a painter that i had lined up to do the job as the guy is a fing pro when it comes to paint and i moved about 1500 miles away from him so im skeptical on letting anybody else paint anything i own. hes really good and hes a good guy. if i land a better job ill pay for him to come out and paint it if hes willing. but i dont think his wife will let him as she doesnt trust him around me even though she has known me for almost 20 years and knows theres nothing i do that would get him in trouble. basically shes a control freak and i dont like being around her so im not gonna pay for her to come too. or put up with her being around ugh.
so i talked to a few paint shops i knew of before when i used to live where im at again and they arent super interested in doing it as theyve gotten bigger and shot very high on the quotes including told me they really dont want to do it anyways. pretty much told it would be a back project no guarantee on how long it would take and id have to strip everything off the bike and bring it to them and send the rims to someone else for paint anyways. quotes were from 600-800 on the reasonable side but would probable be more than that to over 1200 bux for starting cost.
i was only asking to paint the pieces that are painted so the blue and yellow pieces. front fairing belly pan side pieces by seat spoiler and the top piece where cluster is at. i feel like they just legit dont want to paint it for some reason its a quick easy job especially with everything off. ive had quotes on getting full cars painted for less and they were even buying the paint with a faster turn around from much much larger shops.
i would have to source the paint source another company to paint the rims and strip the bike and still pay a ton of money i feel like i could buy the things to do it for much less and if it came out bad it would still be better than what it looks like now. with the money i save i could just repaint it next winter and keep getting better until it looks the way i want i guess and still be under the price of the low quotes. what do you guys think? paint it or pay it?
i want to paint the main body this color
it sounds like a weird combo but its a throwback to the bikes like these in the 90's one of my all time fav color schemes
