I should know the answer to this one as done it a few years ago but memory and age etc.
Basically used 18mm carb on 80cc conversion. Cleaned carb properly upjetted main to the same as I did my son's conversion to 85 main jet. Needle on middle position or possibley top position out of 3 on needle. Starts fine, idles fines, rev's fully out on stand fine, take it down the road and only works fiine till it gets past idle circuit and then splutters and stalls till back in the idle circuit range. I am sure a few weeks ago I got it back to the garage by just opening and closing the throttle fully really fast but could have been another scooter but I dont think so. Not had chance to check condition of plug as usually dark wet or freezing after I get back there. It's running with a manual on and off tap and that appears to be flowing ok and no vacuum problem with tank. Help appreciated Thank you

If you remove the air filter box/cover, does it get better or worse?

Sounds to me like it's the needle position giving you problems. On the stand there's no "load" on the engine to rev up, but as soon as you put a load on it there's an issue... worth a shot

Any chance of a ripped diaphram?

Take a look at the diaphragm. And the needle. It is easy to bend the needle, and that can cause it to bind. If the diaphragm is not sealed around the edges, with the 'nub' in the little cutout, it is possible the slider won't rise up when you open the throttle and the engine starts to rev up. Make sure the slider is free to move up and will fall back on its own. IMO variations in the needle position will make some difference, but it is more 'tuning' than general operation. IOW, it should run with little problems, maybe less power, if the needle is up or down from 'best position', but not be the end of the world. If it won't run, then something else is causing the problem. If it coughs and spits, and pukes black smoke out of the tail, it's likely a lot too rich. tom

Thank you all I shall check friday when back from work. I am sure the diaphram is ok and needle not bent though. Usually if I remove airfilter it never runs right but I shall give it a go and see and check plug.

If you take the filter of and it gets worse, it's leaning out even worse. My stock 49cc was from the factory too lean. Had to purchase a tamper-proof carburetor and that alone let it run a lot better.

Quick Milly. You need to install one of those anti gremlin bells.

I think his scoot is already infected with gremlins. He may also have the diarrhea touch... I don't know of any cure for that. It usually only ends with death.
