In early september I bought a super 9 in rough shape. I acquired all the missing pieces (ebay) and put new tires on it and it seems to be working great.
Over the black friday weekend I ordered a tecnigas q-tre for it and an athena speed variator from scootertuning. Should come today.
Is there a recommended order or sequence to get the parts on and tune it? Should I do pipe first and see if I need to adjust carb jets first before cvt tuning or do it all at once? I haven't done a pipe before so this will be new.
Also I have a belt replacement coming. Should I wait for cvt tuning until I get the new belt? Current one is worn down to 16.6mm, new is 18.

You are going to have to adjust the CVT to work with the new pipe. No point doing it twice. Usually the jetting needs an increase of around 10% if replacing a standard pipe. Quite often the rollers you get with a variator are too heavy for a sports pipe.

I would do the CVT work first, only fit one new part at once, fit the belt test and compare, fit the variator t&c then move onwards, use a tacho and GPS to log speed and performance before to start to mod the scoot.if you fit all the parts at once you can throw it out of whack and get lost trying to tune it.Take pics and notes as you go.

So they sent me a tecnigas Next-R. Weird. This is actually the 4th scooter part in a row where I was sent something very close but not exactly right. I think it only fits ones without a disc brake. Also I still have a stock 50cc cylinder. And hope to drive this thing around town. Not exactly sure what's going on here...

Looks like the q-tre is out of stock. Probably just sent me this instead. Should I just live with it or what? Will it work? Any downsides over the q-tre?

It's a solid pipe for a stock or 70cc sport engine. Nothing too spectacular but not too shabby either. I use the same pipe on my Prebug with the 70cc Black Trophy kit for daily driving and she does serve me well.
What is not OK is that they send you a different product from what you ordered. Even if it has the exact same price, which I doubt, it should not happen without prior informing you about it.
If you wanna keep that pipe or not is up to you of course but either way I would let them know what happened and ask why they would do something like that. Especially if it's the 4th time in a row. Just my 2 cents

That's a more expensive exhaust than the Q-TRE. 👍 They should of at least contacted you first though. It should fit ok. It's listed to fit both LC and AC, super 8, and 9.

[quote author=" tsimi" Especially if it's the 4th time in a row. Just my 2 cents [/quote] To clarify, the other three were three separate ebay purchases back in September. It's just weird that I ordered from an actual store and it happened again. The next r costs $8 more so its nominal, but yeah it was very surprising.

If itll work then I'll just keep it. I was concerned because on the tecnigas paper included it says "not for use on motorcycles with a disc brake" so wasnt sure if it would fit or not.

I have the Next R . It is a good entry level expansion pipe . If it will bolt up you will like it . If you have a tach that pipe makes the most power in the mid to high 8's for rpms and also cuts out under 10 k rpms so it is very safe to run on set ups .
If you dont have a tach you can use your butt dyno to find where the pipe hits the nice part is the pipe power band is fairly wide . I was able to run weights all the way from 4.8 grams to 5.75 grams with very good results . Clutch springs I needed to go up to medium type springs to get the Best launch the light ones were almost Ok There was No need for the hard springs .

On my Super 9 with the Next R pipe I ran 6g weights and a 90 jet. Everything else stock. I found it to be the best combination. My Super 9 was AC, don't know if that matters.

The athena variator kit came with a contra spring. I'm thinking I'll try that. I messed with the contra on my chinarelli once but it was before I really figured out what I was doing. Unless everyone thinks that's not worth it?
I basically have four months of tuning (but only tests on days streets are clear of snow) before I'll ride it much. Wisconsin winter commute isn't consistent or all that enjoyable on a scooter!

Unless everyone thinks that's not worth it? If course I'm not everyone but it's not worth it. You won't achieve anything.

The contra spring wont add any performance unless the stock one is near end of life .
Just for refernce you will want to lean to as light a contra you can run without belt slip or you just have extra heat and belt wear.
Be aware if you increase tension on the contra the roller weights will act lighter shift later because they have a harder spring to overcome.

Alright. So i finally tried to put on the Next-R. The only way it bolts on the expansion chamber is tightly pressed against the rear disc brake, so that's not going to work for me. So now I have to try to return the item I didn't even order. That's a bummer. Hopefully scootertuning.ca makes it easy.
