HELP - my 32in Samsung 10 year old flat screen just died. Now I only have this crummy phone 2 browse the internet. It's horrible. It's been so long, I don't even remember the difference between LCD and led. What should I be looking for. I'd like to get something between 30 to 40 in but this time a monitor instead of a flat screen so I can stop ruining my eyes. Any help would be extremely appreciate it since I'm right in the middle of a ton of work on the scooter and the computer is like my right arm. Thanks guys

I found a used AOC monitor for $5 at a thrift store, just check the cable connections to see if they match what you have. It works great. I just plugged it in at the thrift store and powered it up to get the "no cable attached" notice. It was only about a 20-22" unit but it works for my bedroom movie monitor. I do have a sound system though. I have seen powered speakers at the thrift store also.

I think Best Buy, NewEgg, amazon, etc.. still have some cyber week deals going on. Big monitors are pretty expensive. You can try something like a 43" TV with chroma 4:4:4 at 4K 60Hz and low input lag to save money and get an acceptable monitor. You can google that stuff and find sites that will list TVs that make good monitors. Should be able to get something for $300 that way vs roughly $450 and up for a monitor of the same size. As said, check compatibility before you buy anything.

You should quit doing it before you go completely blind...
I just use trifocals now. I need some better glasses, mine are ~7 years old. Trifocals are getting hard to find.
I may have to try progressives again

honestly ive been a tech junkie for a long time and used to use monitors for my computer in the early days. once video cards started using hdmi and display port i switched to good tvs and youll never notice much of a difference so long as the screen has good image quality and a decent response time. the last 2 brands i bought new were viore and insignia they are both commercial brands meaning its built with good components from large manufacturers and sold cheaply as they are geared towards businesses and things like that not the regular consumer so we get them at a cheap price since its not a big name. i still use the insignia and ive had it for like 6 years lol. its a 48" monitor for my computer and i wouldnt mind a little bigger but its on my desk so i have to look around on it already. but if i want to view an image for example its able to be blown up to full size or much larger depending on what it is.
as for screens lcd is pretty much the standard screen nowadays. led is just whats used for the backlight at this point. it used to be ccfl and things like that in the past and was where the burning out issues came in. check around on craigslist as bad as it sounds but many people are getting new tvs at the end of the year and pretty much throw them out now. ive grabbed flat screens at the road in the past that were working a few times cause nobody buys used tvs. nobody knows what to do with them when they get a new one. as for the audio chances are your pc has audio outputs so just grab a cheap set of speakers at walmart cause if the screen has speakers them most likely suck. i got a 2.1 stereo output set i use and actually like. the brand is black web the set was 20-30 bux the last time i looked at them and has a decent sub and good audio quality from the desktop speakers. it has an adjustment for the sub so you can turn it up or down and it far outperforms the crappy tv speakers on my screen.
just make sure to look at the screen while playing some form of decent quality video to make sure it looks decent to your eyes before you buy it so youll be happy with the result. 720p is pretty outdated now so id look for 1080p a decent 1080p screen should be good enough to not bother you so long as the screen has a decent response time. anything 5ms or less for the response time is pretty good. decent computers usually have about a 15ms frame time high end can get down to 7 ms frame time but the game usually limits the hardware at that point. so that means the monitor can display frames faster than the computer can render them. a tv or monitor with a slow response time will ghost under fast situations like a game or action in a movie so it will display the new image and an after image/old image. so if you watch something on it and dont see blurry/fuzzy when the camera moves you pry good to go.

I really want to thank everybody for the responses you guys gave me on this thread. You don't know how much that helped to have all that input. My neighbor across the street offered to let me use his laptop yesterday evening. About 3:30 in the morning I made a choice. It should be here Monday afternoon.
