Picked up a box of parts from my friend in Michigan. That combined with what I already had seemed to have been almost every part. The one part I was missing was the fuel petcock so I ordered that (license plate light is also missing and the h8 bulbs and sockets were cut off so I have those on order). Pretty sure when the engine was removed from a trashed bike, it sat with gas in it for 10 years. That took awhile to clean at all. With new jets and a new needle float it seems to be fine. It starts right up but if throttled before it warms up itll die. I'm guessing the exhaust isn't totally cleared and after some driving itll clear up. It takes a whole block to get up to 25mph and seems slow. Maybe it's just that I've only driven 2 strokes though. It's a smooth ride. I haven't driven it further than a block -no headlights and not registered so dont want to mess around too much. I'm guessing itll reach a max of around 35mph with enough of a stretch. I might try to find lighter rollers but these things are 19x15.5 and I have 15x12 and 16x13s laying around. Here's the idle after a short test drive. youtu.be/AAcGVsxvZng

Nice find. Sharp looking Scoot . That carb sure was gummed up .
25 mph sounds low for a whole block for a piggy engine so you have room to improve.
You can count on the Exhaust needs to be cleaned out after sitting that long. Check to see if it is still restricted in the head of the pipe.

Nice scooter. You should be able to unlock some performance quite easily. When you removed the carb, did it still have the gold restriction plate fitted?

I actually have an extra exhaust too. These things are likely too heavy to sell/ship to anyone so maybe I could do something funny to it until I figure out what to do with it.

This is my first go at a 4 stroke so dont know the basics on performance improvements. Guess I should go search around.

Stock exhaust. Would cutting off the part that inserts into the engine help anything or is that needed for getting a full seal? BTW not planning any huge purchases for performance since I hope to sell it and prefer it to be stable. But working with what I have is doable.

Since this is your first 4-stroke, don’t forget to adjust the valves.

I don't think I have that restrictor plate. I am thinking that maybe I have an issue with the needle. I may have lost some piece when I disassembled it to clean. Right now the needle goes in the diaphragm and then this white three legged thing slides in over it. But the needle isn't secured in place. Should it be like that? The needle could go in and out (under the tension of the spring) without the diaphragm moving. I'm thinking maybe I lost some snap ring that could have held this three-legged "cup" in place, but can't see anything listed on the parts diagrams for the carb. www.ultimateparts.net/aprilia/c.php?n=Carburettor-II-Aprilia-Sport-City-ONE-50-4T-2V-E2-2008-2010-Aprilia-Parts-UK,-Worldwide-for-Aprilia-Scooters-and-Aprila-Motorcycle-1992-to-2013&i=26625 Could that be a problem? Is there something I could try? Or i suppose I can buy an entire new carb. things are cheap.

The needle stays tight in the diaphragm and the diaphragm moves up and down. Be sure you diaphragm is seated tight with no tears or the vacuum won't be able to lift it much.

On the kymco CV carb I checked there is a plastic piece that screws slightly to keep the needle tight in the diaphragm. That's why I'm wondering if I'm missing something in this one. The needle isn't fully locked in its spot but I cant exactly figure out what tiny part I could have lost and nothing shows up on the parts diagram i found.

On all of my Keihin CV carbs the spring holds the needle in with the help of the plastic piece.

I have this thing mostly going. Tuning the carb is really what is left (i hope anyway). Had to put a tiny washer (2.5mm) on the carb needle to raise the height to get it running decent, but still not sure if air/fuel mix is good yet. The carb requires a special "D-style" socket so I need to get that to adjust the air screw more easily.
Also, it's restricted and maxs out at 28mph. I'm selling it so planning to just leave that CDI restriction there. I do have an extra CDI (and lots of other extra parts that hopefully sell on ebay one of these days). Maybe i'll mess around with it since i have a backup if I break it.
Super slow/low power right now. Maybe with some tuning it'll go better. It doesn't have nearly the same pull as those 4t kymco 50s. I might try some lighter weights or an increase in clutch springs, but not sure if it's worth it since I hope to sell. I'm not sure what the "average" scooter buyer is hoping for.
