Anyone know of a person or outfit that would custom grind an existing 50 or 150 cam? Thanks!

Some time back, there was a comment/post about the several varieties of 'performance' or 'race' cams available for the GY7/139QMB. I remember there being an A9 cam as the 'hot one' then, along with mention of at least an A8, and I think an A10 and A11. They all will be limited in their profile based on the diameter of the cam bearings, but the lift and duration can be modified by grinding the base and so on. I likely know a lot less about them than the poster on the other post... tom

A14 A12 etc lol I found out early in my scooter career check the lifts and durations on all cams be for you install don't take the numbers on the box as true . All the company's have A9 , A12, etc but each brand of cam has a different spec lol So when you build one and it under performs and you have just racked your brain over why look at the cam timing and specs !

Thanks Guys!! Making a graph of cam degrees and lift really isn't difficult after the purchase of a degree wheel (protractor), dial gauge, graph paper and a lot of patience. An assistant helps as long as you both stay straight enough to record a whole lot of numbers. My issue is a source to regrind a stock cam. Another grind is not the answer to my created concept.

the only two places I can think of that would even consider doing a custom grind would be 1) local machine shop and 2) a speed/custom/performance shop that can do custom grinds. If you can find an old geezer like me who has a lot of machine tools out in the back yard shed, and has some spare time, you might entice them to do a grind. Question is how to find one of them... Maybe an ad on C-list in 'auto parts' or 'services' or a yakety-yak 'yard sale' page.. facebook. If you can find one machinist, or machine shop, and gain access to the machinists, or the 'boss', you might find out that Old Sam retired last year, had a shop in his basement/back yard/garage, and would love some work... Just need to spend time chatting. Another thought is transmission shops and re-builders of about any machine. They will need access to machinists that do one-off things, so should have a list of people who can and are willing to do unusual work. At least that's what I would try. tom
