Has anyone here had any experience with calcium chemistry batteries in vehicles/equipment? Everything I've seen says they require a higher charging voltage than standard lead acid, but that's all I can find.
I ask because the battery in my work rig is toasted, and its up to me find a suitable replacement. Its going in a 4wd MF 1635 with loader, but I don't wanna drop the 285$ in town for a calcium unit IF a standard lead acid 100$ unit would work. The tractor puts out 13.9 - 14.6 depending on rpm. The calcium battery came with the tractor when bought new. Its NEVER held a charge that would start it if it sat more than three days, even unhooked.

I can't claim to be any expert on some of the less known battery chemistries out there. I think I've heard of calcium batteries and that's the best I can do there.
But it's hard to see how a standard lead/acid battery wouldn't work if the alternator is putting out 13.5 to 14.5 Volts. That would seem to be enough to charge a lead/acid batt.

You could also drop a high amp diode in the charging line to the battery to drop a few tenths of a volt.
Lead acid charging voltage is 13.8 to 14.2V

I'll pull the stupid expensive brick out today, boost the tractor, and measure the vilatge without the dead weight. I don't pretend to know anything about this beast. Just how to run it. Kinda...
I guess for a city biy from Detroit, I'm not bad on a tractor, I can do anything that needs done, but damn this battery is killing me. I don't believe it needs the calcium battery, I think it was just an OEM thing, maybe the battery company was thinking if it was OEM, people would spend the extra $$ to replace it with the same thing.

The charging voltage is measured with a fully charged battery installed.

Yup. Works fine. This was the OEM brand that it came with. Too rich for my blood, and the boss squeaks when he walks, so I knew that wouldn't work.....
