Hello. I own a 139qmb I recently decided to switch from the cv carb that has the auto enricher(choke) to a pwk manual choke carb. I’m having issues with power my grounds are bad which in turn isn’t strong enough for my bendix fully turn out all the way. think I have it narrowed down to the ground from the auto choke being left open, maybe. What I’m looking for is someone with experience that has switched from cv carb to pwk carb and how you went about wiring from magneto and rectifier. Any help is appreciated.

Do you have a good voltmeter? Check the bat volt engine off, at idle, and at 4k rpm. Removing the enricher, if the rest of your wiring is good, would not effect anything else. The bat needs a perfectly clean connection to the engine case and the main ground wire in the harness And the headlight/handlebars. Does your battery have a full charge to start with?

I think I’ve figured it out since the wires toward the enricher are ac I’ll cap the white cap cap yellow and ground the green to the frame. My headlight is dim . I did check the volts straight up from the battery they were a bit low hooked it up to charger and read fine but lost power after a couple tries from the electric start.. I bought the battery last summer but just put the carb on this winter.. replaced the stator coil and starter.. it still rides fine.. I unfortunately put grease instead of oil on my bendix so electric start is rough.. trying to get that back into working shape

I said all of that wrong jeez I’m terrible with electric.. there is only a yellow and green connected for the enricher idk if it will do to much or any difference if I ground the green if it’s ac.. all I know is my headlight which could be bad is really dim and gets brighter when I start it and engine runs.. I’ve got bulbs in the mail

The headlight is powered when the engine is running. It does not run from battery voltage, in at least a good number of brands. It will gain brightness with increased engine rpms. That reaction is normal. There should be a large cable from the engine to the frame, normally from the cam cover to the frame somewhat near the battery box(rearward from the box), and a large cable from the + terminal to the starter relay. There should be a smaller red wire, with fuse in-line, from the + terminal leading up to the handlebar area to power things such as the gauges, horn, turn signal, etc. If the starter turns slow, check battery voltage, and check voltage at the large post on the starter motor when cranking. They should be close. If the starter terminal is low, it is likely due to poor connection or poor conductor, or a battery that has lost some capacity, and cannot produce voltage when the starter demands juice. An auto battery, nominally 12V, should produce at least 10V when measured while the engine is being cranked. If less, the battery is considered weak. Remember that the starter relay can develop voltage loss across the internal contacts over time as the contact surface becomes worn and scarred from use. If you jumper past the relay, be careful to use a conductor of sufficient capacity or it may get HOT quickly, and cause burns. tom

Oh oh, one of those threads. I'm gonna throw a dart at the screen and just address one of these wonky issues.
Removing the auto choke: If you have need to disconnect the auto choke, you normally unplug it from the wire harness at the connector. Do you have such a connector on your machine? If so you don't have to do anything with the empty connector-harness side, just leave it alone.
Ah ok, check the grounds, not by looking towards them but with a proper multimeter.

Well thanks it’s running pretty well now.. I had replaced the stator coil and not really ran it before I posted my question..after I road around for a while the auto start feels really charged and stable.. strong .. I appreciate your shared input. My headlight is still dead though only issue..
