Hey guys I picked up a 2005 Zuma this winter and have been making my way through it. I added a Yasuni Z pipe, TPR variator with 7G weights, and I’m waiting on my socket to replace the clutch spring.
I can hit 40 now but I am wondering about a couple things. The exhaust sounds kind of crappy at idle almost like the RPMs are too low. Can I just adjust the idle screw to raise that a bit? Does anyone have recommendations on Jet sizing for a setup like this? What do you think about that weight on the rollers, it definitely gets up and goes better but I’m trying to make the most before I put in a BBK.
Appreciate any help and recommendations, scooters are fairly new to me!

Your weights are too heavy and are holding the rpms down I run 5 gram to 6 gram weights You are not spinning up in the power band That pipe likes to be spinning your engine 8500 rpm and above . I would buy a tach and see where your scoot makes the most power and buy weights that when you hit the throttle the engine rpms jumps too there. You also probably need to go up one stiffness in clutch springs If from a standstill and you go wide open does the scooter roll slow for 10-20 feet and the take off fast . Then you need tighter springs usually medium is all you need . If when you hit the throttle it seems to jump off the line your springs are good
If you have stock carb . Order 84 main jet from yamaha 14T-14343-42-00 and 82 main 14T-14343-41-00 and you will be in good shape , I raise the needle by lowering the clip one notch to richen it up because you spend most time on the needle.
This will keep you from cooking your cylinder because the fuel provides most of the cooling in these 2 stroke engines.
Since you are just started modding Make sure you have a tight exhaust seal . To check for this with the scooter running take a gloved hand and a wet rag and plug the exhaust if it kills quick you are good ,If it keeps running That is very bad ,If the leak is by the cylinder if it is by the silencer that is ok . Air leaks are deadly You want a graham cracker brown spark plug ideally dark chocalate look is ok If it is white you are cooking your engine and could seize

Just post up a signature line of your current mods so we can what scooter you are running and what mods.
A ton of guys from all of the world here to help The engine you have in the zuma is copied world wide so there is a large Knowledge base .
For exmple 2stroked eton beamer is a zuma clone .
I have built up a couple of those beamers to be 50 mph screamers .
So Just keep asking questions on anything and Look at a few of the zuma, eton builds as guides on here .

Hey Zino, just opened up the carb new jets come in tomorrow to test. My needle is already set at the 3rd notch down. Should I still drop it one lower? Thanks in advance.

After you swap in the main jet You can look at the needle you are in the stock position now . I am one more down from where you are at . position 1 is the top 5 is the bottom If position 3 and 4 both feel the same take 4 for safety .
You spend alot of time driving on the needle A Second Big Reason when you go full blast down the road for a few miles and then drop quick down to half throttle Helps you from soft seizing as you drop in rpms since fuel provides like 80 % of the cooling for your engine .
Now the second way to keep this from happening is juice the throttle a few times to give a burst of cooling fuel mixture as you drop down and at the stop lights . Added Bonus it Just sounds cool .
Do you have lighter weights coming for the variator .

Scootertuning right now 50 dollars and above free shipping They are a good vendor and could hook you up with any odds and ends .
When you get to buying a kit . Buy a quality one Sport level Cast Iron Malossi , Polini ,Top Performance These are a huge upgrade and very reliable . You can keep the stock carbs with those kits and pipe .
If you Go A notch above to a Aluminum Kits You really need to look at a Bigger Carb .

I have a weight set coming, clutch springs, and jet set so I can try different sizes out.
Just to confirm I want to bring the lock washer down towards the tip 1 vs up towards the spring correct?

Richer is when you move the clip down it keeps the needle from reaching down as far into the jet.
Leaner is when you move the clip up it lets the needle go deeper into the main jet .
There is a slight taper to the needle that lets fuel past .
