Well you sum it up correctly with the title. Nothing inherently wrong with texting, its the operators who are rude and / or thoughtless.
My favorite is my sister who sends me 4 and 5 paragraph texts. So i end up siting in front of my computer with it's huge key board, while holding my d__m phone and typing with my thumb. Especially annoying since i know she does nothing but sit on her computer and surf the web all day...
The people who invented "My Face" on the other hand should be shot... :disco:

I prefer emails and tweets when dealing with customers, that way i have a record of exactly what was said. this situation was a little different though and i would have been pissed too. As a customer myself I dont expect retailers and service providers to rely totally on txt, email etc...
As a service provider though, in todays world we have to make it as easy as possible for customers. many times i prefer a quick 140 character message (tweet) or a txt that i can read quicker than talking and much quicker than even checking voicemail. i have a general aversion to telephones anyway.
