I would make the original shop fix it. Otherwise he gets paid for the bad work and you get nothing. He just got away with it. Take it back until it is fixed correctly. Maybe talk to a lawyer for 30 minutes and see what the best coarse of action is.

OH GAWD!!! My brother must have had your mechanic... (or at least his evil twin up here in Michigan) My brother took his car in to a shop to get the front brakes done and fix a noise problem in the front end... It was all down hill into hell from there. They over charged him for a job that should have been half the price they charged. He was desperate to get his car fixed so he could keep his job so he was pretty much stuck with the shop that was open. Long story short, they screwed up his steering by just replacing some parts, but not all that were really needed to do the fix correctly. And they refused to use parts he bought online that he was going use to try to do the job himself. (which he soon found that he couldn't do) So he went through 2 sets of new tires that burned down to the cord in about 2000 miles with each set. My brother brought some of that upon himself. He had run into the issue of shops refusing to use customer supplied parts before. There were other issues as well, but still the whole thing stinks because they should have done the job right in the first place.
The other horror story was with my GF who regularly took her car to the dealership for scheduled service. No problem there as they always did right by her... except this one time when the shop noticed a loose shroud beneath the fuel tank when they had it up on the lift. This, after she had stated an issue with a rattling noise from the back or underneath, she wasn't sure. They said they couldn't fix it that on that day, but she could bring it back the next day. When she got home, she told me about the shroud and complained that now there was a strong smell of gas. I looked under the car and sure enough, in the mere minute or 2 after she got home there was a good sized puddle of gas forming from a very heavy drip of gas. She (AND I!) went back to the dealership. Putting the car up on the lift, the place from where the drip was coming from was obvious... right from the spot where there was a sheet metal screw right through the shroud under the tank.
The shop denied having done that and tried to blame me!!! WTF!!! I know GD good and well what happened. The little f-ck up shop rat twit that was assigned to servicing that car thought he'd help stop the noise for the customer by "fixing it" until she brought it back the next day. The dumb shit put a screw right into the tank just below the seam where the tank upper and lower halves come together. They absolutely refused to take responsibility and made her cry profusely... Dammit, it was awful and I was pissed as hell. I think it scared her and she was afraid the police would soon come and remove me so she relented. She still goes back there, but now they treat her almost like royalty... (because they know I'm still around and I think they know that IF there is a next time like the last time, I won't get mad, I'll get even.
It is stuff like all of that which makes me not allow almost anything to be done to my scooters other than by yours truly. Well, I do have shops do specific things that I don't have the tools or skill to do myself... like removing old/pressing in new bearings and putting new tires on wheels that I bring into their shop... (after they remove the old tires from the rims of course)
So yeah, I can sympathize with that feeling of resignation... And maybe even throwing a match to the SOB and be done with it. (of course getting a claim paid by insurance for the loss... desperate times can call for desperate measures on occasion.)

sounds as bad as the shop my wife took our nitro to. with this covid and me having to go back to work she is living with her parents. well a heat shield came loose and my father in law just took it off. not knowing that it kept heat of fuel lines and those that have removed it had issues with the carpet melting. they tried to tell her that she needed a whole new exhaust because there was soot coming out of it(car sat for a year to get the computer rebuilt as the battery went dead and she had autozone replace it and cooked the ecu) they also said the brakes were not working at all. hmmm funny i had just put new pads in and checked them a week before it was in the shop. when i showed up with my temp gun and said please tell me how you know the brakes arent working and why does it need a whole new exhaust they changed their story to it was all just recomended because the car sat

Maybe talk to a lawyer for 30 minutes and see what the best coarse of action is. I completely see and understand where you are coming from... That said, I'd rather be circumsised, again, using a pair of safety scissors than to let that app near my car again. Certified letter has been sent and delivered. Records of him signing we're kept, so it's all in motion. He's just being a douche canoe.

This dude here is still hiding from me, and he's twice my size. I do have a reputation around here for being the violent type, but I have aready let him know I won't touch him. If he makes things right. Not in writing of course.

UPDATE: Not that y'all care, I hardly do anymore honestly. But it's home. And as right as any car that's had a major transplant.
The first guy shattered the trans case, botched the lines together because either he didn't know how to remove the quick connect or didn't have the release tool, do he cut the lines and used a piece of aluminum pipe and some hose clamps. The wires were twisted together and not taped. The torque converter looked like it had been in a fire fight, was more dimpled than a fat grandma's thighs.
The rack and pinion was stripped out (the line connections) going straight the wheel 12'o-clock was pointing at 2:30 I didn't even notice that myself. The pump was cracked, and sprayed a pin sized stream directly at the serpentine, the lines were hooked up reversed, and the center bolt for the pulley was finger tight.
The TCM from our car was destroyed, it's been replaced and the new one flashed to deal with the now HD version of the trans. We got the HD and it's TCM (plus he had to pay the 275$ flash cost at the GM dealer) with 89k miles which the first bastard had a 900$ price on for 300$ because of his own stupidity. He also paid 185 for a new rack and 97 for a new pump. This time around he paid for his fuck ups.
I've made some flyers calling him out on being rip off douche and stapled them to trees, poles taped to pop machines and just sitting in little gas stations all across the town.

Glad you got it back. That's terrible workmanship. But more than that, it's dangerous. A lucky escape. Things can only get better mate. Take care.

Man, how can anyone screw up a job that bad. Was he drunk or high on drugs? Serves him right to get posters up. His 'work' is dangerous.
