So I needed something more reliable, something that I can get to work and back without worries. I've been looking for a couple weeks now and stumbled across this today:
2010 Honda Elite 110. Gave $740 for it, and drove it home. Had a friend give me a ride to the guy's house in his car and he followed me home, just in case.
This thing is so quiet! Pretty quick, but maxes at 48mph. Even downhill, it's weird... I cannot go past 48mph no matter what and I know it wants to. But, I got home just fine.
I checked the CVT to see if there was belt wear, and noticed it has a strange overside 139MB-like variator with 18x14 weights and the clutch is straight up GY6. I popped on a spare Ban Jing bell I had to verify it was GY6 and it left it installed. It's half the weight of stock...
Belt seems fine, but at idle it sits pretty high up in the variator. I tested a long case 139QMB belt 729x18x30 and it actually felt better. It was used, and about 2mm thinner than the stock belt, but it feels like I'm using more of the pulleys as I have more consistent RPMs. But, still 48mph tops!
The top speed sucks too, because it literally bounces off the limiter and it's extremely annoying. The thinner belt seems better all around, take off and mid-range are smoother. I found 13g rollers in the variator and I don't have spare 18x14 so I'll wait and get some sliders, possibly 11g and a new stock belt... but I need a variator body at least. It's so worn there's a lip on the top edge, where the belt has worn down the contact area so much it is now countersunk.
I opened up the airbox and blew the stock filter element out with compressed air, wasn't too bad at all.
Brake light is stuck on, and there's no coolant in the tank. I'll fill that up and diagnose the switches/bulb next. Also, new spark plugs and gear/engine oil changes are due.
All gauges work, turn signals work including high and low beams, horn is loud too! 20,000 on the odometer and the speedometer is GPS accurate. It's in great shape for almost 11 years old. Once I get the CVT back to normal and the tube up done this thing should be back to awesome!
