Recently threw maybe 150 bucks worth of parts on my GY6 150. An ncy intake, 28mm Keihin roundslide carb, and an a9 cam. New tires and all that stuff. Its not fully there with tuning yet, but its pretty damn good.
Before I was pulling 60 to 61 on a flat road with me tucking like all hell 😂. Went out to try again, and while it gained about 300 rpms and was way faster and harder pulling than the previous setup.....still barely pulled 60. Even took my helmet off to make it more sleek, still 60. I haven't messed with the cvt, and could maybe play with the rollers, but I dont want my rpms to shoot sky high.
For context, i cruise at 5000 to 5900, usually 5600 at 40mph. Usually would creep up to 6400 on that road, but this time it eventually worked up to 6740. I want to throw in lighter rollers to raise rpms, but then i feel like my cruising rpms would be too high. For context, im 190 pounds, and the scooter is 180 i think. Also, on the day in question, there was a 6mph side wind. I feel like it was slightly headwind, but mostly side for sure.
I guess i have two questions. One, where do GY6s make peak power so I can tune more towards that? Should i go heavier on the weights to keep it in the low, pulling grunt power, or lighter to make it get past 7000 if itd make more power up there. And two, would a wind like that take away a few mph? I find it hard to believe that all that work doesnt make it pull past 60 still

The wall of wind cuts own alot of speed . It takes more than 50 % more horsepower for every 10 mph . Here is a example from a engineering calculator for a typical scooter 30MPH : 2HP 40MPH : 4HP 50MPH : 7HP 60MPH : 12HP 70MPH : 19HP
So wind in your face causes alot of problems It doesnt take much .
As Far as setting your trans what do you want mpg then you keep your weights on the heavy side ? Now if you want best top speed you go a notch lower ? You need a range of weights to see what you like best. Y

I believe i have 12 gram weights. I told the shop to go up a gram, and one of the old weights was either 11 or 11.5. I havent tried with the new carb, but the old setup with the same weights was around 50 to 55mpg

More power you usaually go down to have it shift at the same rpm . You now have more power to fling them out so you can be lighter.
I prefer to go as light as I possibly can with the best top speed . Run your 12s run half and half like this 11,12,11,12,11,12 for balance and run all 11's See if you like all 11's best than buy some 10's and run them mixed with the 11's and all 10's If you take notes on each set up for top speed and how your Butt dyno likes the take off tak your favorite combo .

Just looked at my variator, and it rides basically all the way up. Theres only maybe a mm of untouched surface. Same with the inside of the rear pulley. I think i could go a little lighter or a little heavier, i just don't wanna push for more rpms if its not gonna make more power up there and blow up ya know 😂 I think im gonna just try lightening the cvt set up. Im getting a 160 kit and probably porting the head, so i may just go up a gram or two just to be safe. But yeah, light ass polini clutch and a lighter bell i guess

There's even less untouched space in the back pulley, maybe half as much as the front

The travel is good so if you like how she responds dont go lighter.
