Hey guys. Long time no posts! Im sorry about that. I had a relatively massive amount of failures with a few scooter projects I was working on and I had to give the hobby up for... like 6 years... Anyways!
This summer my wifes Buddy 50 stopped starting. It was started at least once the year before and driven consistently the year before that. I tested for spark at the coil and im not getting any. Here is a list of what im fairly certain are my conditions and why.
1. tested 3 coils, None of them produced spark from from the spark tester. The coil should be OK 2. tested spark tester on another scooter. The rig works fine. 3. Battery is dead, but when I kick it over the brake lights come on. So my Stator should be OK. 4. I was able to "jump" it with a car battery and when I turned off the kill switch the starter stopped spinning. So the kill switch should be OK.
I think that leaves me with the CDI?! Does that sound correct?
Thanks in advance!

☻♥♦ ♣ ♠ • ◙♂♀♪♫☼►2→ ← ∟↔ ▲ ▼ well it could be a wire grounding the coil out most likely that sounds like ur issue try disconnecting the coil kill wire from the coil pack and see if it starts

I hadn't thought about that. I suppose grounding could be an issue. I'll check that out. Thanks.

It's Early. Lol. What do you mean "coil kill wire"? The wire from the kill switch?
I thought you were talking about a bad ground at the coil itself. I was going to run an independent ground to see if that would help.

yes disconnect the coil kill switch wire from coil and see if it runs maybe that wire is grounding out somewhereor other wire can be grounding out that shouldnt

I got a new CDI last night (salvaged from a hold honda elite that uses the same cdi?). Spark has returned!
Tried to start the scooter and it wouldnt turn over. checked the fuel lines. found the vacuum line to the fuel pump had failed. replaced fuel lines. fuel smelled bad so I drained the fuel and put new fuel in. Tried to start the scoot. it would run for a sec and then die. Decided to take the carb apart and check it. it was absolutely filthy.
cleaned the carb up as best as I could. Made sure the jets were clear and the bowl moved. put it back together and now it starts and runs as expected. it does "bog" at mid range. I figure something is clogged still in the carb. I added an oz of seafoam to the new fuel. We will see how it does with that.

You will need to make sure the carb is really clean take it apart and clean every orifice check with bare electrical wire that they are all clear.

Theo did you ever solve the midrange bog? Did the seafoam do the trick im assuming you fixed it because you haven't been responding but we'd love to know how you made out there with an update thanks.

Hey! We went on a long cruise a day or 2 after this post and by the end of it the big was gone. Hard to say if it was just more driving or the seafoam, but runs great now.
