So after recently purchasing a new-to-me Honda with a windshield, I've noticed something funky.
When riding above 30mph it feels like something is pushing my helmet forward and down. I know it's from the draft from the windshield, but when I don't wear it I don't feel anything. Also, wearing a ball-cap backwards, the cap won't want to fly off or anything. Sometimes it's bad, like in a nasty headwind or if I get stuck behind a box truck/van. I feel like a taller windshield would be better, as my line of sight is just above the top of the windshield. If I hunch down a bit everything is fine, but that's uncomfortable.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and if maybe the design of the windshield is at play?

Yes I do with those silly little fly screens like I got on Violet, a to taller one above eyeline is terrible in the dark and wet with lights streaking about like a mobile disco. The mid screen I had was good but I dont have Django anymore and just got a screen for Violet which is not so flimsey and just a little taller so I can fit a wind deflector to it and tranfer it to the screen of the ET4. The wind goes over my helmet then.

I've found I need the right combo of helmet, windscreen height/width, and seat height to reduce the wind turbulence ... When I changed helmets, the turbulence changed. A shorter windscreen was less noisy than a taller one (surprisingly), though I imagine that if it were even a bit taller the noise would go down. I will need to look into "wind deflector" as suggested by Milly. Sounds like it might work to add a little something to divert the wind just a bit.

I have nothing of value to add,but John Wayne thought windage and elevation was important,Leslie neilson was once on a coach(is that a bus USA) that broke wind at 50mph.mad ramblings from the man cave.

I know from riding motorcycles, that sometimes a higher screen is not always better. It can cause the air to tumble and I much prefer to have wind hitting me in the chest, than head. Unfortunately it's a try it and see scenario. Perhaps have a look at reviews if it's possible.

I got a full screen for my GTS and it blacked the wind really well but I had to look through it. I slowly cut it down so I was just looking over it and it caused all sorts of helmet buffeting. It's off now and the wind is fine and does what it should. My Scarabeo came with a full screen, if there is any wind it acts a bit like a sail and makes handling a bit tricky. It's all a trade off.

Yesterday's ride home was one of the most turbulent rides yet, and it wasn't even that windy... just the direction of the wind hitting the cargo box and windscreen. It's hot here in Florida, so I ride with my visor up a lot and the sensation of being pushed forward is much less with the visor closed. I just open it up at low speeds now.

The windshield on the TMAX annoyed me for a long time. The stock one was awful. I got an aftermarket one and didn't like it at all. I went as far as taping yarn to the shield to try to see what air was doing. Ended up cutting it down a little and that improved it enough that it doesn't bug me too much now. Windshields are really rider dependent. There rarely seems to be one that absolutely everyone likes.
I've got a huge one for the TaoTao that covers everything. That one works how it seems like a real windshield should work... it's just big and bulky and ugly. It feels like you're in a convertible car when it rains.

For me configuring a windshield can be akin to tuning a carburetor. Lots of trial and error. I dislike a giant windshield and looking through one is not an option for me. I like a conservative size screen that keeps wind noise low around my helmet and gives me adequate protection from insects and rain. I found that a "smaller" windshield is usually more horsepower friendly which is important when dealing with a displacement challenged scooter. A larger windshield on a smaller bike is also susceptible to buffeting from crosswinds. Here is a pic of a shaved down Sportech that I pulled from my Lance PCH 150 (sold it) and transferred to my SYM Mio. It works very well on both scooters.
