Informative for someone who has never owned a Chinese scooter. It's a bit disappointing that the values needed adjustment so soon.

Aero, the valves could have needed adjustment the moment the box was opened, and fuel put in the tank.
If you check the 139QMB manuals by the different manufacturers, and look up valve clearance information, you will likely find as many settings as there are manufacturers. The same thing applies to the quantity of oil to be put in the sump, and the viscosity & type recommended. The design of the cam and rockers will generally close the clearance as the valve and seat wear into each other. The wear on the rocker bushing will be less as it is pressure lubed, and the shear on the follower will likely be minimal as the spring pressure is light and the follower & cam likely hardened. Wear is then left to the valve & seat, which will close the clearance. FWIW. Personally I don't like tappy engines. Tappy in that you can hear individual taps. If you have multiple valves a-tapping, such as a slant-six or a Volvo/BMW/Mercedes with solid lifters, or a Z28 from ~1970, tappy sounds nice. The 139 can sound bad if the valve clearance is set too loose. .004-.005" seems about right to me. tom
