So as my 150 is down awaiting a part I decided to reconnect the OEM signals. Silly me I thought it would be simple just resplice/connect the wires to the OEM lights WORNG! They spliced all the ground wires together from the DOT mandated lights, the license plate light to the OEM signals. Why would you reconnect the ground wires to non-functional lights? Now I'm at a loss of what to do. Or where to start. Picture of the mess

What a mess. It shouldn't be too bad to sort. But I bet the previous owner was proud of that work.

Rats got into the packing crate and chewed the wires.... Rodents just love wires. I think they use the wire strands for floss.

That's even worse. How a garage could possibly think that's acceptable is beyond me.

I don't think it was done by Dave. The tech that looks after the shop he takes pride in his work. I've seen his work. My ZX50 is proof of his pride to have it done right and safely. More likely done when it reached our shores and the wider after market DOT required signals added quickly. Either way it's total FUBAR. I just might take it to Dave to "fix" when we pickup my wife's 150 when her oilpan is fixed.

Ha it's done and working. Took the back end to shop when we picked up my wife's scooter and after looking at it Dave suggested just to reconnect the Orange and White wires to the OEM signals as the ground wires are already connected and close off the two grounds to the "DOT" turn signals. What ya know now the OEM signals work and the bug eyed DOT ones are in the trash.😁

Looking at the first photo and it appears to be pretty standard fare. Not clear about all the factors involved.
On each side of the photo I see a wire harness clamp that is mangled enough to suggest it was used at some point. Looks like someone unhooked and spread out the wires. The green grounds are kinked at about the position where they would go through the clamp. I'm guessing the grounds and probably the lamp hots went through the clamps at some point
Soldering the grounds is common and functionally not so bad. Just not so convenient. Probably better than putting crimp terminals on all those wires and attaching to a terminal strip or a stack of bullet connectors. Wouldn't have killed them to use some heat shrink.
If you have to remove a ground wire you can simply cut it and insulate the end. If adding a wire you can solder into the mess or what I would do is cut one of those greens and splice in the new, solder or crimps, your choice.
Add some zip ties and use those harness clamps and your back in business.
