When you had the OEM ECU in did you get the red LED? I think the ET4 will flash codes at you telling you what the problem may be. Here is a link to what the codes mean modernvespa.com/forum/wiki-immobilizer-codes. Not having any LED could be the problem.

So I started to investigate your problem and it all points to the CDI and the immobilizer. In the manual on page 4-10 there is a troubleshooting guide to help you find the problem. The only way I can figure that it it limits the RPM is through the coil. On the fuel injected models it uses the injector to do it. I would go through the trouble shooting guide and see if you find where the problem is. I also found this link that if you go to Page 2-6 it has a very readable diagram of the CDI circuit. www.vespaforum.com/manuals/useful%20info/Info_manual_2.pdf. I also had a problem with the CDI connector on my wiring harness and that could be your problem.

Thank you very much pinkscoot. I shall start with the wiring harness plug that goes into the immobilizer unit as the wires had been cut off close to the plug making it hard to twist the wires together for quick testing see if started. I shall cut the socket off my spare loom I have leaving me more wires to play with and join together properly with solder. Then I can start the testing procedures properly.

Well the loom I have spare appears to be an lx it has same colour wires for the stator and charging, regulator,CDI, immobilizer, Speedo circuit board but differs for indicator, brake levers on the sockets so I need to check out whether to cut the loom for the main CDI circuit and graft it in to mine or use the LX 125 loom if in better shape and work around the connectors that are different. Time to peruse wiring diagrams. But first check over the timing and make sure I didn't assemble the cam chain one tooth out.

Milly, this is what the CDI plug looks like. I think I do have a spare here but I'm not sure if I have all of the tabs to go in it.

That's brilliant pinkscoot. I have just been over my work checking the timing and valve clearance. I was just about to pack up as dark and thought check coil wires and both have exposed wires. So need to fix that at some point and buy a coil. I have stopped now for a few days.

Brilliant, I knew you would find it. Its usually something right in front of us. I am starting to learn a lot about these Piaggio scooters. Well made but some of the Italian wiring is a head scratcher.

Today I went and checked feed to the led immobilizer light as not working. Red and blue had power but the circuit board not connected to plug properly. Reconnected it but no power on the yellow return from led. Light was fading in garage and getting cold so I removed it and maybe a bit of circuit ribbon problem by plug. It's now sneaked indoors so I can dismantle speedometer unit and test led. May also have battery for the clock 🙂

Well stripped Speedo no joy with light or ribbon so may look for another speedometer that's good and was all there before bike stripped and running and no @aeoxbud I did not get caught 😜. Now for a game of backgammon.

I perservered and waited for a new led to arrive, went across road tested on scooter. Fine. It would appear ther is a problem with ribbon on the speedo cluster so unsoldered the old led which is duff after testing yet again and bodged the new one in with the help of gaffa tape to thicken holder so goes in hole. Yolanda did not even moan when I had the soldering iron going indoors to cold out today. She did not know till after I had finished . I shall start assembling when get chance the next couple of weeks. I now think I will find the problem is elsewhere, just wait for a few little bits to arrive now.
