Hey Everyone!
I'm working on a 50cc Tao Tao knockoff (2006 Super Motor TP50QT). From what I can tell its basically identical to a Tao Tao of that generation in every way.
I'm at my wits end with this thing. It will start just fine and accelerate hard to about 8mph, but bogs really bad after that. It will eventually accelerate and I've gotten it up to about 38mph but it takes a while to get there.
Things I've done:
- 2 new carbs. The original was beyond repair so I bought a new one. It was bogging really bad with the new carb so I bought a replacement. Same Issue.
- Replaced Fuel Filter
- Replaced Spark Plug (the NGK I pulled out still looked near perfect)
- Replaced vacuum lines and y connector (It was leaking. If I hit with carb spray the engine would change rpm)
- Adjusted Valves (they weren't too far off)
Does anyone have any idea what I could try next? Next on my list is to bypass the fuel filter and go straight to the carb to see if its a fuel issue. Also might disconnect the belt drive to see if something there might holding it back. Maybe its the fuel "pump" itself? CDI? Trying not to just throw parts at the thing.
Thanks for your help everyone!!

might disconnect the belt drive to see if something there might holding it back If the engine revs up fine while rear wheel is elevated on the center stand . . the variator weights MAY not be oriented properly in the ramps?

It does rev better on the stand, but still bogs regardless.

It does rev better on the stand, but still bogs regardless. Intake manifold vacuum leak is another potential gremlin.

Move the needle all the way down (clip on top, lean) and see if there is any difference. If not do the opposite (rich) and see if you get any improvement.

Well I took the clutch/belt out and it seems to rev just fine without it.
Maybe something dragging in the drive line somewhere?

Check out this vid by partsforscooters. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnQmM4vwJW0Just be aware some stock needles only have one notch so you may have to get a replacement adjustable needle.

I see what you are getting at now. I can try to adjust this a bit. Could this cause the flatout bogging i'm seeing?

What does the plug look like? The replacement carb may have too big/too small of a main jet in it if you have the original carb you could try swapping MJ w/ the replacement if it fits.
Then you said that it reved up fine with the belt off, does the clutch and rear drive faces spin easily/quietly?

The old carb MAY still be at the bottom of the garbage bin. It was in pretty bad shape.
