Last night I put in my 100cc bbk and now I'm having issues starting. At first, it as trying to turn over but just didn't start and the battery died. I tried to jump it off my truck, but it doesn't seem like power is getting past the start solonoid. I tried to jump the solonoid, but it did nothing. Not a sound. Starter seemed like it was fine when there was power, so I don't think that's the issue. It feels like a grounding issue, but I've scoured the bike and can't find a bad or loose ground. Any ideas to my power issues?

If you short the two bolts on the solenoid and nothing happens it's either the starter burned or the fuse at the battery gone. Check that. Can't you kick it, does the motor turn around?

Did you install the black cable on the cam cover bolt? That is the ground that is used by the starter when the starter relay closes. Power from battery=>relay=>post on starter==>through starter brushes etc=>black wire on cam cover==>frame ground=>battery post. If you don't have good connections and conductors in that path, a perfect battery(fully charged, brand new, rarin' to go) won't do bubbly. No path==no power transfer. Jumpering from an external car battery, "-" post to the bare metal of the engine, and "+" post to the bolt on the starter motor SHOULD result in sparks. And the starter motor spinning at high speed(lotsa amps available) and cranking of the engine. If the key is turned to ON and the KILL set to run, the engine should start. If you get no cranking, no spark, your starter motor may be toast. Or fried clams, I dunno. But it would be in need of inspection if it doesn't spin when fed power directly. Could be the cables.. the clamps... or the battery posts have a coating on them preventing conduction, so they should be checked also if it doesn't spin up. tom
