A 2stroke only develops compression from the top of the Ex port to the top of the bore..Those scratches will not cause major compression losses,,,Run it!!!

Side note: Once this Maxima Caster 927 is gone I’ll never, ever, never, ever use any more of it. The carbon deposits it’s leaving behind are horrible and the cause of two tear downs on this engine to free up rings that were glued into the piston.
i sure hope you not running the Caster 927 right now... that would be borderline "insanity".
i usually run Motul 710 because i use injection pump on all my minarelli engines, unless i can get a hold of some Red Line racing oil. my top preference is Red Line racing oil. i have run Motorex Cross Power oil as well. even though the synthetics are more pricey, i stick with those. the shop that specialized in minarellis and piaggios here pretty much only carried synthetic oils so these 3 oils is what i got used to buying because that is what they sold.
once in a while, when hunting Hondas, i will put 1-1.5 oz of 10% r/c airplane nitro in a full tank of gas to lean it out lil' bit. i love the smell of nitro too.

roger that. i was reading in another forum, one of the members uses Caster 927 for break in, then he switches to synthetic to help flush the caster out after the break in.

This is getting monotonous. Completely user error this time. Took out a shim inside the variator in an effort to regain my 53/54 mph cruising speed and reassembled without adding them to the outside of the stack. It felt tight but it must not have been. I went 8 miles from home, half of which between 45-50mph and I was nearing the top of a large hill when the belt went. Ramp plate and stationary plate are both splined so there wasn’t massive amounts of slip like when I melted down the Malossi setup. There must have been enough wobble in the stack though to generate a LOT of heat and melt the belt. Ramp plate melted rollers and guide bushings. I snapped fins off of the stationary plate getting it loose roadside. BTW, church parking lots as the last most devoted people are leaving is highly recommended. I was offered help and rides. I think I have enough parts to resurrect my exit one more time without buying anything but I’m starting to run low. I’m gonna go inside out of the cold and watch some Tv while perusing the parts sites. They matched overrange sets are looking tempting.

Another lesson learned. But these lessons are getting expensive. As soon as it happens, you think. I know what happened. At least you picked a great place to break down.

Thanks Zino
Tonight I put my stock keyway variator back in. Also some flat spotted 15 x 12 rollers. Reinstalled a worn PL30303 gates belt. Took it out for a lap and I can tell that those roller weights are slightly lighter than the previous roller weights. RPMs are up across the range. Overall it felt OK though and I was able to get it back on the road with the parts I had on hand.
I have a new PL30303 belt on order. That belt seems to work well for me. I need to get some rollers in the correct size to have for tuning and on hand. I am seriously considering the stage six over range variator. I had success with the oversize torque driver this summer but I have been in that when I was having engine troubles. My i’m doing with the Mallossi Multi var variator was the non-splined ramp plate. The stage six ramp plate has spline teeth. Anybody know the outside diameter of the stage six over range variator?

Tried to go on a Xmas ride. Let the bike warm up while I suited up. Looked over and it was leaking gas at a regular pace on the floor. Damn! Pulled the vacuum line and let it run dry. Unsuited and pulled the carb. Took it inside, set it under my new table light and started pulling screws etc. I’ve had a lot of, um, leakage? I figure the float needed adjusted. Today was a first for large fuel leakage though. I didn’t discover anything in the float area like dirt and the floats were not full of gas. Shrug. So I adjusted the float so it would shut gas off sooner, perhaps this will stop the random leakage. Back to the bike…..

I'm unsure if this will be applicable, but I had a leaky carb on my prebug that was symptomatic of a float issue or bad petcock. It turned out to be a bad o-ring on the drain plug. It was a dellorto phva/phbn, I'm not sure if your drain plug is the same style. Worth checking though.

This has the drain plug jet change bowl. It’s tight but the gas is fast dripping through the gasket at the top of the bowl. The float needle can’t possibly be shitting down the fuel flow.
