Sounds like a bad gasket on the fuel bowl.

Sounds like a bad gasket on the fuel bowl. It looks good though, seems complete.

No news is good news. Since I switched away from Caster927 to plain cheap Lucas 2-stroke oil it hasn’t given me any trouble. The clear vinyl fuel hose isn’t leaking and neither is the carb. Rode 15 miles tonight in the dark and hovering around 32°F. The daytime ice melt is back and nighttime freezing makes me very cautious. I upped the idle after I had the carb apart several times chasing the fuel leak and that seems to have helped very much especially when starting and running on choke. Bike didn’t want to idle well until quite hot. Now it idles at a respectable 3,000 from 90°-200°.
Keep scootin

Treating myself to a Father’s Day ride song the Susquehanna river. Half hour in and the belt grenaded. Woke up fiancé and said “help please”. I took my tool kit out yesterday to fix a taillight in a car. Damn. At least it’s nice out.

I used Lucas oil, last trip I bought STP oil. The super Moto ultra caster 927 has been abandoned after three rounds of “sticky rings.” The belt is (was) a Gates PL30303 belt. Last one had 2,000 miles on it. I kept it and that’s what I rode home on this morning. I’ve had several variator/TD failures in the past year. Some self inflicted others head scratchers. I’m stubborn I’m not purchasing a over range kit set. I’d rather experiment and walk some. I have a large TD courtesy of Ryan which I used for awhile in concert with a Malossi variator but the Mallossi ramp plate was not splined and slipped due to me not tightening the nut properly. That overheated everything and ruined my set. I went back to some used (up) parts which I’ve been lucky enough to get good mileage out of.

So went out on a similar loop to last time when I blew the belt. Rocking a used belt with north of 1500 miles on it. When I disassembled my drive to change the cracked variator drive face I got all the belt gunk out of the inner workings. My old 15x12 rollers are like little octagons. Damn they’re lumpy. New parts are in order. I do have another variator on the way. Gotta get a new belt ordered too. Gonna go back to my large diameter TD once I get things apart. It’s just a pain because since I switched cases (needlessly due to stick rings and nothing else) the larger TD won’t fit the NOS case. Gotta get the die grinder out and do some trimming like on the last setup. This will all happen mid July into late July. I’m now 6 days away from wedded bliss so time is precious. Bike is gonna sit a bit.

I’m now 6 days away from wedded bliss so time is precious. Bike is gonna sit a bit. It's not too late to back out and devote yourself to scoots instead. The scooter will never complain if you use the coffee table as a workbench, the dishwasher as a parts washer or spend too much money on parts. 🤣

Jen is pretty forgiving. But just in case, Define too much money? Hmmm. A few examples of when scooter parts hoarding has gone just slightly too far... - When you're praying that she doesn't notice you're putting a bread tie on her finger instead of a wedding band... but you just had your handlebars gold plated. - When you have to pretend that you're also upset about the DJ not showing, but you know why. You cancelled him because you realized that his fee is about the same as a pair of wheels... but he's only gonna spin for an hour and a half. - When she opens your 1st anniversary present to her and it's a crankshaft. "You don't like it? Oh. 🙁 Well, I guess I could use it if you aren't going to."

If she lets you rebuild your scoot in the house because it's too cold outside. And will let you wash bike parts in the dish washer, marry her fast Rob.

My neighbor across the street, who has a Fox body Big Block big tire car, was paying the mortgage with a credit card and using available funds to buy car parts, if I ever get that far in somebody intervene.

Too much money is when she looks at you with big wet eyes and says "Honey, I'm hungry.".

When you order them fancy reeds off AliExpress the part they omit from the instructions is what part of your ass the gasket is supposed to be placed in. Oh well. I installed them using the old gaskets like I’ve always done and then tried to start it. It barely starts even on n choke. Damn. Ok figure I have a vacuum leak. Take it apart, study, reassemble. Nope. Take apart, grey gasket goo around base, reassemble. Now the hard part, wait for 24 hours. Did that. Start. Same crap. It’ll run on choke but die very quick on regular. Opened idle mixture screw (no lie) about 5-6 full turns and it will idle without crapping out. I think I need to swap up to a bigger idle jet. Then I’ll adjust again. Until then I need to renew my registration AND get its annual PA safety inspection. Check lights, check brakes, charge me $20 and send me on my way. Thanks.

Usually in my experience the gasket goes on the case. Then there is a rubber ridge on the intake manifold which seals the top.
