Having lots of trouble finding a pilot jet for my stock carb on 09 Zuma.
My idle screw in more than 1.5 turn and i want to make the pilot jet size larger
Also wondering what the stock jet size actually is. seems like some conflicting numbers.
Thanks K

1.5 turns is fine for the jet you have. It's when you get up around 4 or it falls out or is all the way in that you'll have problems.

right is rich on the zuma mixture screw 1.5 turns out is in the right range . If you were less than 1 turn out you would look at going to a smaller pilot .
If you want a richer jet The vino plot jet is what to get it is a 46 5BM-14353-23-00 is the yamaha part number

Thanks, ive been trying to diagnose a problem for a long time, the bike is having trouble pushing taller gears from a stand still. Ive tried evething. have lots of contra springs, weights and shims...
Its only at 1.25 turns out. ive read it makes a bit difference on phva carbs to get the proper pilot. and less than 1.5 turns should replace the pilot...
Plus i am looking to add this air box below so that will increase airflow
I have 70cc cylinder yasuni R 14/40 gears fiber reeds and cage Ordering Air filer Box with better flow (https://www.scootertuning.ca/en/air-filters-airbox/6072-large-airbox-for-bws-sport-zuma-yw50-03-09-for-70cc-engine.html)
I may have a Yamaha dealer that can order the pilot Im wondering if i should try a 46-48 or 50 ? any guesses

The 46 jet is more than enough Did you do the throttle mod the stock 2008-2011 carb does not open the throttle the whole way . These guys have a nice write up www.zumasrus.com/zdox/ztip6.htmlWhat 70 cc kit I have the yasuni r on my zuma with a kit it needs at least medium clutch springs a notch lighter weights than stock half gram to a gram . A fresh stock contra is ok but a after market spring is better in light or medium strength

So both the jets in the images will work even though one is longer than the other? _______________________- Ive tried mallosi hard spring with slider , polished the other end and regreased the torque converter with high temp lithium, clutch functions smooth. Running the medium now. i can pretty much rid the problem if i shim the variator out enough, but then my top end also sucks as well.. I have top Trophy 70cc.. Also have polini high speed variator, but i have to shim it so much its almost falling off. yes on throttle mod

The stock yamaha carb takes mikuni 11/22 jets for the main . Never saw the need to try either the stock or the 46 ,The 46 defintely has been rich enough. The main is the most critical jet to get right the pilot jet is for idle and transition to the needle .
I have run the polini variator with the stock shim and stock belt and have got less than 3 mm travel . When I put in gears I had to put in lighter weights in the variator . From my notes with the polini variator I used the polini contra spring ,polini green clutch springs they are medium strength and found weights in the 5 gram to 6 grams were the outer edge of what worked . We both had similar cast iron kits and stock carb You have plenty of power to push those gears . If your cvt is out of balance you could be shifting into 2nd gear before take off. Which would make harder to push gears.
Do you have a tach ? You want weights that when you hit the throttle wide rpm hit a rpm range around 9k and then rise from there to top speed without ever dropping.
What is your Top speed ? Mid 50's is what i would expect

Thanks everyone..
I have a tach on order (bout time) and my yamaha dealer has the 46 jet...
Goes about 50ish when its tuned in good. i have the reg variator in and goes about 45 ish right now.
Been avoiding the polini high speed variator cause when it's shimmed out the belt alignment is out of wack even more.
Waiting one some others parts so need some time before troubleshooting.

Could you post some pictures of your polini variator installed ? Post a picture of the rear pulley at rest ? Have you done the sharpie test to see if you are getting full belt travel? Run down the road full blast wide open to max out the variator and measure how much is left . The stock variator you can get under 3mm left outer edge and 2mm inner edge . The polini you can get down to under 2mm both inner and outer edge .

Willie start a build thread so we can follow and help with your tuning progress also post up a sig line with your mods over stock.
The Trophy kit Yasuni R and gears is a good combo that others might want to copy .

Yes i can start a new build thread and fill in my info when i get all my parts in. Lost a few years worth of build history on zumaforums :$
Done plenty of sharpie work thanks.
Have another related question...
How do i carb clean an autochoke carb with carb cleaner? i read the autochokes are sensitive and dont like to be removed... should i leave it alone?

Willie I also was on zuma forums . If your from Canada and used to have a problem with warped heads on your trophy cylinder from your scooter that you cleaned up with some figure 8's and sand paper I am pretty sure we were comparing notes back in the day on zuma forums .
