Hello to whomever took notice,
I recently purchased a Wolf Brand V50 50cc scooter which I believe is a GY6 139QMB and I would like to increase its speed from stop to start and top speed. I have been researching performance mods that could achieve this and before I start breaking the bike down I'm hoping to get some clarification and direction, or be told I'm way off and pointed in the correct direction. Before anyone jumps at me about buying a bigger scooter, I know, but I cant afford the insurance required to ride one and I've had to stick with a 50cc and hope I can mod it and not get caught. I've read that many, if not all, 50cc scooters have speed limiters either on the variator, the CDI, or related to the air-intake/carburetor air/gas mix. My initial plan was to take off the kick start cover and remove the spacer/restrictor from the variator. Then I watched a video posted by Wolf Scooter showing how to replace the stock variator with a performance variator and clutch and I didn't notice any large washers that may be inhibiting the clutch from achieving full movement. Maybe they removed it for the video, maybe they were working on a 150cc.
Question 1: Does anyone know if this brand/model has a spacer/restrictor on the CVT?
After watching the video I decided to find out what exactly a performance variator was and why you might want it and after learning about that I then wondered if replacing the stock variator with a performance variator and decreasing the roller weights was what I needed to do.
Question 2: Assuming there is no restrictor on the CVT is a performance variator the mod to make? Do I need to replace the variator and clutch assembly? What roller weights are best for a 50cc scooter?
Currently I can achieve a Chinese 45mph (US 40mph) on a flat roadway, but not for a long distance, I'll hit 40 for a minute or so then it'll drop to 39. 39 has been my top speed for the longest distance.
I really appreciate any help and time anyone may be willing to give. Maybe I'll find I should be grateful I've got a 50cc that gets the speed it gets, however I am hoping there is a way to increase it a bit more, ideally if I could hit 50mph I'd be happy. I am using this as my full time vehicle in Miami and people down here use the speed limit as a guide for their minimum speed on any given road, not maximum. It's a little scary riding a scooter on streets at 39mph while everyone else is flying past you/around you much faster than that.
Thanks for your time.
