I run a mhr team ported cylinder on one of my sons quads I'm looking to get some more power out of this quads it has to stay a 50cc I can't put a big bore kit on it or stroke it so I'm looking into different mods for this cylinder has anyone had any luck modifying one of these cylinder if so I'd be interested in hearing about some different builds and cylinder mods. I read about people milling the cylinder top and running a spacer under the cylinder has anyone here had any luck with this?

Well first it would be good if you wrote down the setup of the quad (carb, airbox, exhaust...)
Regarding the cylinder I would check if your ports are opening fully when the piston is at bdc and check the squish clearence.

The team cylinder is a race cylinder. If you have ported it it will need a good pipe to match, and make the most of it.

I'm not sure what my set up has to do with modifying the head to make more power but if it helps I can tell you 24mm carb with filter on the carb no air box stage 6 reeds stage 6 ignition Mach 1 hand built pipe squish is at.023 at bdc ports are fully open crankcase fully ported mrh full circle 85mm rod crankshaft.

When you say hand built exhaust. Was it made to match the port timing of your cylinder?

When you say hand built exhaust. Was it made to match the port timing of your cylinder? Yes sir. Don't get me wrong it's not slow by no means I'm just trying to come up with other ways to get a little more power out of it I'm pulling it apart to install a new crankshaft piston and rings and just looking for some ideas to squeeze more power out I'm to the point now I really think I need to work on cutting rotating weight.

Seem like you have done most of the usual performance upgrades. A lot seem to like expanding the cases to fit a KX80 reed valve which is larger.

Hello, what rpm are you running it at? When you are at around 14.000 you won't get any 'more' power. Thats basically impossible with your current setup. I am guessing you want to run it quicker around the track? Quicker laptimes?
In that case you can try to widen up the powerband or shift it around a little. You can: Try to improve airflow through the engine. Build a differt pipe with different characteristics. If the above is already accounted for, lower compression to smear out the power over a wider rpm range

Well I finally did my 50cc quad build and I feel it was very successful. There is definitely power to be had doing light cylinder mods but I feel most of the power gains came from modifying the case. If anyone is curious shot me a message

Like pinkscoot said. Post some pics of your case work. And what kind of power did yo find. Where was it at in the rev range and how much are we talking?
