Got a clean break on the right-hand case just behind the stator/flywheel. The suspension is practically got all the weight at the break. Looks pretty sketch. What should I do? Try and get it welded or just replace the whole right hand side of the case?

Replace the case or just replace the engine.

I actually don't, it's a scooter I'm working on for someone. The break has a good 1cm of separation. I certainly wouldn't ride it in the shape it's in. It's just a matter of how easily and cheapest way to fix it

That's roughly where the break is. Totally clean break with a gap. The suspension is connected to some of those holes that is broken off which makes it sketchy to me.

I've never rebuilt that much before. I've done crank oil seals/top end. Stuff like that, how much harder is replacing that half of the case? My other option is maybe finding a cheap parts scooter for $100-150 or so and steal a good engine off it.

A gasket set, the new part, and then... You have to remove the engine from the scooter. Then the ductwork, the rear wheel, all the fluid, the rotor(generator wheel), the stator, the cylinder & head, and a buncha bolts. You then get to separate the two halves. I think the oil pump and chain, then clean the gasket surface, and put back together. Simplified.
You may find the whole thing in a youtube video. It is hours of work. Lots of gasket cleaning time. You can re-use the piston/rings/cylinder if desired. I am not sure, but think the crankshaft bearing will stay with the crankshaft when the case is removed. If not, a press may be necessary. I have not done this... tom

here in town is a " lawn mower and scooter repair " - out back is a huge junk yard full of old scooters - maybe you could find something like that near you and just get the parts you're looking for ?

Seems like a lot of work. Think I might just look for a cheap parts scooter around hopefully find an engine to swap on for now and maybe rebuild that one when I get the time for it.

Parts scooters are a dime a dozen. It is not a big deal, you can have a replacement engine on it in no time flat. Pull the main bolt , reconnect the wires, fuel lines, throttle and choke "if manual". and
