Went and did it again. Picked this beauty up for $450 yesterday. This will be number 3 in the rebuild line though so it may be awhile. LOL yeah right this is jumping ahead of the CV80 and the Vino. They're chump change now.
1958 barn fresh Allstate Super Cruisaire. Needs lots of work but the good news is the rust is mostly if not all surface rust. Won't know for sure till I break it down completely but I didn't see any rust rot. Speedo is busted. It shows just over 5000 miles though. Kickstart lever is not fully attached so I dunno if the engine will spin or not yet. If it doesn't I may swap in a P series LML case and beef this bad gal up so to speak. The lure of 177cc+ may be too good to pass on.
Plan for the rebuild:
once I get the kickstart lever on properly I'll test to see if the engine spins. if it does I'll drop the engine and get to to work on redoing the seals and bearings and get it running (DUH!). If it's seized I'll probably just order an LML P case from SIP and start a new.
I'd like it to be quick off the line but mostly be a touring ride set up. so any hints or tips or suggestions to get there would be helpful. Not touch the paint. The patina is perfection. But that depends on the rust and how well that cleans up. I'd like to put 10" wheels on it if possible. Possibly upgrade the headlight to a LED one. do these have brake lights or are they still just a tail light on the 58's? re cover the seats (can I put a bench seat on here instead of the 2? I just like the look of the bench seat more) if I swap engines it would make sense to go up to a 4 speed transmission no?

That's great. Like your plan of not painting it. That would ruin what it is.

Great bike. Sadly, the old 2 ports are incredibly slow, the VNA motors devlish so. 3 ports are really the way to go. A simple LML swap is not that easy as there are other issues, like gearing, electrics, hubs etc. that come up. Plus, don't order from overseas, there are plenty of motors here in the US. It all depends on your budget, really. Everything is possible, at least in my shop Give me a shout if you need anything!

Yeah I'm a little worried about the speed issues with these since I live in Philly and it's essentially a race to the next red light 500ft away every single block, but I do live where it's hilly and the easiest way downtown is a 45mph twisty turny river road that no one goes under 55 on. Gonna attempt to keep it stock first and at least it's nice to have back up plans just in case available.
Also posted it over on modern vespa so you'll see it over there too. They seem to know what they're doing in the not so modern section.

Nice find. You're making me look at the 150 Sprint V I have in the back of the garage. It's 3 ports it should do well.

So cool! Definitely keep that patina. Maybe a flat clear coat at most.

UPDATES!!! We all love updates no?
First up is some body damage I found. The reinforcing bracket was welded on the shift side but it's not connected on the throttle side. Gotta fix that and that crack on the front. The throttle side was repaired shittly at somepoint so I'm gonna clean that up too...

The Clutch is pretty rough looking.

I would love to find an old allstate like this one, gut the frame and electricfy it.
That would be a cool bike.

Rear drum. With broken welds on one of the studs... Glad I found that before riding it!

I'd love to do an electric conversion but I def don't have the cash for that. Unless there's a kit that has a long range and top speed but I haven't found one yet. Most have a range of around 50 miles and a top speed of ~40mph... once they get stronger and more range I'm in!
Current plan is to probably swap to a P200 case and go from there. This piston is still seized after 2 weeks of soaking in penetrating oil. So I'm working towards splitting the case to see what's up. At the least I can store the original engine and restore that later on just in case I wanna sell it in original fashion later (doubtful but you never know!).

Struggling with how to remove the flywheel though... the nut is 13.5 mm. 14mm is too big and 13 won't fit on it! WTF? Is there another way to remove this?

Cool! I've got a 5000w 10" brushless hub motor and controller in my office waiting on the donor bike. I don't expect to have a range more than 50 miles when all is said and done (it's enough for me to commute), but I should have a top speed of a bit over 50mph, which would be perfect. I originally was going to convert my already modified PX... but I'mma wait for something else to pop up and keep that bike as a 70mph tourer. Matt
