Well putting a new tire on the rear and figure as long as I am here might as well change the valve stem, just incase that is the source of the mystery air loss. But what size is the valve stem? Yahama part is 93900-00802-00 but I can find no tech info on it. Anyone replace theirs with an auto part store replacement?

You should always replace valve stems when you replace the tire. They are a cheap insurance policy. I've gotten ones from NAPA when I forgot to order them. Make sure you replace them with like ones, if short go short if angled go angled. If angled match the side it sticks out.

Looking at the picture on partzilla it looks like it is the .625" style. www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/93900-00802-00I'd just take the old one to a parts store and compare, as far as I know valve stems only come in 2 sizes(.453" & .625"). Also recommend picking up a can of bead sealer while you're at the parts store, it is great at filling in any minor imperfections between the rim and tire bead that cause slow leaks.

"Make sure you replace them with like ones, if short go short if angled go angled. If angled match the side it sticks out." That just for ascetics?

Clean the rim very well before you mount the tire.

Got short valve stems once from scooterpartsco.com that were right size, but seemed to be made out of hard plastic rather than rubber. Not flexible enough. Borrowed one from a neighbor that fit.
Has this happened to anybody else?

I just buy from the local auto parts store. If in doubt about size just take the old one in and they will match it.
