Oooh man! The sputter is long gone but she's still throwing a good bit of smoke. That could be cause I'm super rich on oil at 32:1. I know 40:1 is better for this cylinder but I wanted to make sure I didn't burn up my parts. Rather burn up a little bit of oil during testing than the cylinder or the piston. Could also be a bit of oil left in the case. Gonna lean things out to 40:1 on next tank. Still holding at 25 on pilot and 75 main with middle clip position. I'm gonna ride it up and down the road a bit to see if that clears the smoke and gives me a better idea or how she sits without the enricher (I really do hate those things) throwing things off. In prep for road test, I've mocked up the lights and cowl. Couldn't find Rx8i plastics at a decent price, so the Albatross will be reborn as Jonway lol. Still I think she's gonna be quite pretty when we're all done

Ooh baby. Well we got her up to 44 today according to GPS. That burned off all of the schmutz and we are definitely LEAN and HOT at 75. Heading back to somewhere around 84-86sand likely to move the needle up a notch.

Alright. Beautiful day out. Starting at 84 main, moved needle up one notch. No sputtering. Little bit of smoke seems to idle alright at 1 7/8 turns on air screw with 25 pilot.
So, that a little over 11% on pilot, and and 20% on the main. Might be a little rich, but lets take her up and down the alley a couple times and see what happens.

Bout ten minutes doing runs in the alley. Sounds a bit tinny. Accel is much better with the 84, but the pitch on this thing and decelerations vibes just don't feel right.
Gonna try for a super rich state and then work down, fully raising the needle, changing pilot to 27.5, main at 88.

Well, I will be damned. She ran great! After couple test runs, took her around the neighborhood for about 30min Fantastic ride no complaints. She is just on the very edge of sputtering at WOT, so a little rich.
Gonna wait for her to cool down and then have a look at the plug. I think I'm pretty much there. Good low end throttle response with plenty of power.

Plug is not the greatest. A little damp, but that's a sight better than the bone dry gray that I was working with before. She seems to run fantastic. Cruises along very easily at 35/40 with room for more. Have bumped it wide open for just a sec here and there. Hesitates after. Think it might be a little too rich, like its wetting the plug. I'm gonna stick the CHT on it and now fine tune since I believe I'm the neighborhood.
Fun story of the day, I sputtered to a stop at top of a hill during test ride. "Oh shit! Is it too hot, did I just seize up? Every thing seems okay. Why won't it start. Oh man." Get off bike. Don't hear fuel splashing in tank. Give it a shake... no sound. "Aw man..." I burned up all my gas doing test runs! I am a DUMB ASS! 🤣🤣🤣
Jump on bike and coast down the hill. 1/4mi walk of shame my dumb ass back to the house. 🤣
That's all for this weekend. New tires should be arriving on Thursday along with last little odds and ends for electro. Gonna make it a priority to hook up the fuel sending unit 😉.
Have a good weekend everybody!

Ay!!! We are back! I nearly blew up the motor running way lean with that snorkel in. Yeesh! But we are sorted out and it's time to resume testing! But first, I got a new speedo and fuel gauge to put in. Nothing fancy, but it's all I need for this thing at moment. Came with a male connector, but the harness also has a male connector, so I'm clipping wires and putting a new plug on it. Thankfully, most of the wires on this thing match the harness.

Moderate success. Lights work. Indicators work. There is power to the fuel sending unit, needle moved when key turned to on but I don't think the unit itself is working. Tank reading empty, but it's full. Also found that the speedo puck is shot. No response.
Bit of a mixed bag, but the motor is finally running right. I'll take it. Lol.

Well, I thought the motor was running right until it shut down on me the other day. See post over in 2 stroke troubleshooting for more info.
Now we are definitely running right. So back to the plan. Now that the engine is done, time to get some new tires put on the bad mama jama. Don't particularly like having to refill tires every test run. Lol. After those are done, will do one last check on wiring, get the starter installed and button it all back up.
Nearly done. Hoping I can get this girl in cruising shape before next weekend. Weather is getting too pretty down here to stay in the garage.

It is customary to show the accused the implements of torture prior to the ordeal. Lol.
