Hi all I sometimes like to ride my 49cc Chinese scooter from 2015 once a month. Approximately 2300 Kilo meters as it says on the dashboard. It has a max speed of 30 KM/hour and never exeeds this limit for a year now. But how is it possible I went almost 45 km / hour? Do you think someone secretly modified my scooter? Winter is coming and there is no exception that my scooter only starts electricaly when i have driven it a few minutes making it nice and warm. The question is. Is it true that senthetic oil will wear out its rubbers and its engine faster ? Some website it claiming this but others say it's totally nonsense. What do you say? Also I found a weird black square shape like device screwed on the inside side inside my crankcase cover with a lead going to it. Any idea if this is a theft protection device? I have no photo of it yet. Thank you 👌

Welcome to the forum. The new speed is what the scooter should be restricted to from the factory. Before you were only getting 18MPH. That is not right. We would need a picture to identify this wire. But some scooters are restricted in the CVT by a sensor reading rear wheel speed.

Wow thanks man now I'm sure it's a sensor. What luck. That explains why the scooter has suddenly an increased max speed woohooo but also dangerous.
Because I probably screwed the sensor wrong back inside the Carter. 😳

Most 49cc scooters will be limited to about 50kph. That is right around 30mph. The limiters commonly used are a CDI that has a rpm lead, a variator with a limit to its travel(can't squeeze tightly), and the sensor in the CVT cover that senses the rpms of the input shaft to the final drive gear. If you are actually limited to 18kph, that is below normal. Something wrong. tom

"Also I found a weird black square shape like device screwed on the inside side inside my crankcase cover with a lead going to it. Any idea if this is a theft protection device? I have no photo of it yet." Did you do anything to the weird black square?

No I did not but it's C and I probably forgot to tighten a screw. Or perhaps it just gave up on me. Anyway since my scooter from 2015 chinese. Do you think synthetic oil can cause leakage or even damage the engine?
I found someone that wrote something about this. I lost my manual so I don't know. But it's a razzo latina 😂

I doubt the synthetic oil would damage your engine. It's probably not ideal though. The oil leak is more likely down to bolts coming loose. These things vibrate. One part of the first service would be a fasteners check and torque. Very few of these ever get done.

I have not once heard of an engine block cracking because synthetic oil was used. These scooters get seriously abused. Some do thousands of miles without ever having even an oil change. Some are run on cheap car oil. They still run. You have to remember, most of these scooters will end up in third world countries. And he put through far worse conditions than most Americans would put them through.

I don't believe that article one bit. The only issue I know from using synthetic oil are using regular oil for a majority of an engine's life then switching to synthetic- the synthetic oils have more detergents in them and clean away sludge that were plugging gaps in gaskets thus causing an oil leak.

My opinion of the article is that the author is not an engineer, listens to old wives a lot, and repeats what he has heard without further investigation. If you want to get into a good old argument that will last for decades, visit the web site for 'bob is the oil guy' and post a comment... Synthetic oil is synthetic only in that the molecules have been chained together by chemical processes. It is designed to have good flow at low temperatures, and to retain its viscosity and protection film at high temperatures. Most start with a hydrocarbon base, and modify. Some use liquid petroleum, others start using natural gas. I think, as I have not dug in deeply on the topic, and am just repeating... FWIW. If you change the oil in your machine on a regular basis, you do not need to spend the extra on synthetic. IMO. It should not hurt anything. It may, repeat may, leak past the seals a bit as it apparently does not interact with them as does naturally occurring oils. (again, ignorance of details as I don't use it). Some lubricants are blends of natural and synthetic. They cost a bit less, and deliver at least some proportion of the protection(from higher heat) that fully synthetic lubes do. Be aware that 'M*B*l1' synthetic may not be 'full synthetic', FWIW. There was a lawsuit about labeling and that brand was allowed to use the term contrary to what one would think. Again, details left to the reader. I suggest using a diesel rated oil, synthetic or not, for these engines. Diesels are harder on their oil, and most do not have roller tappets, so need a bit more ZDDP to prevent wear to sliding cam followers. The China engines have sliding followers. They do not need the special 'motorcycle' oils that some larger bikes need as they do not have a 'wet clutch'. Some cycles with wet clutches note you should not use lubes with 'friction modifiers'. Get some Delvac, Rotella, or Super Tech from WallyWorld in 15W40, and a gallon of that will last a good long time. Its cost will also be about half that of using 'S' rated synthetic lubes. tom

Thank you so much todayI learned a lot . I stopped using ethanol 10% because they say it will eat the scooter inside out. So I use fuel that costs is 5 cents more.
Is hard to maintain my scooter to have it use less fuel? I think I get 10km of 2 liters fuel now or something. I haven't checked because I only drive once a week 😉
Maybe I should put another muffler on it.
Thanks anyway let the tinkering begin. Because my scooter won't electrically start in the winter. And my right foot is handicap 🤔
Okay I don't know the exact Km per liter but u will find out I tjink but its not much. I smell a rat

That fuel economy is horrific. Something not right there. These little scooters stock should do at least 70 miles a gallon. Your getting about 13!

yeeeees very strange. now i was thinking why my it only starts electricly when i drive it for 15 minutes orso. so my question is. is it useful to do the carb cleaner test spraying it in the airfilter hole to the carb and see if it starts then ? or spray with wd40
or do i have to check if my battery is good.

Start by checking the battery. It might be passed its best. After 15 minutes of riding the bike will be warm. And the battery should be fully charged, making it easier to start.
