After doing a little wheelie practice session between me and my sisters bf, something pretty fuckin sick happened. He recently got a 150, and hasnt really been much into his old 50. We went trail riding, and instead of taking my Zuma, I rode the lil dinker cause why not. We did wheelies after, him getting really good on his 150 and me forcing fear out to try to commit. Im not letting myself learn on something with power until I can wheelie this 50 good 10 times in a row. He tried wheeling the 50, and confirmed he didn't even want it anymore. I told him id buy it from him, and he said "bro, fr you can have that bitch right now". Sooo....here we are! My second Taotao 50. My first scoot those almost 5 years ago was a Taotao 50, so this is awesome. It has an electrical gremlin that caused the headlights and tail light to completely die, but it runs good. Much better than my old one for sure. The plan is to do a youtube build series on this bike, the ultimate budget 50. Doing it right without *mostly* breaking the bank. I really wanna do a 50mm bore, but i dont even know where to start with that. Im going to snag up the 88cc kit from ScooterSwapShop, as for 600 bucks it seems to be a strong contender. Deleting the dash and installing a light pod on naked bars, or putting a led light into the stock headlight housing. Same with the rear tail light. Paint job, some touch me up bits, my goal is to truly see what you can reasonably get from a Chinese 50 to see if theyre truly worth it so you dont have to wonder. For now though, the only thing i can do is an important mod....getting rid of these damn tree trunk mirrors!

One thing you guys can help with to start...i cant decide on a paint job. Black with green rims/accents, orrr a mimic Buddy Blackjack paintjob with minor gold accents.

Updated plan. Delete the lights, put a bar brace in, along with the kit, im throwing on a Dellorto slide carb from Ruckhouse. Im scared a 19mm would be too big, but a 17.5 seems way too small for an 88cc with a big head and pipe. May try another round of head porting, idk tho, i trust NCY. Has a cam, no valve springs possibly. I dont want rpms getting too high anyway, but i feel springs are overkill if i time it right. I may try something with the paint, a sort of blue version of my Taotao 150 that got destroyed a few weeks back. Seat wrap, grips, seems pretty good to me. Just wondering if a 19 slide carb is too big. I dont wanna use the 24 cvk in the kit because it seems way too big. High torque starter as well, everyone seems to fry the stock starter on these kits, so ill definitely upgrade that.
And yes, i almost want to buy a 232 motor, swap that into the donor bike and put my 155 in this lil 50, but ill resist the urge 😂

You know what, i might give that a shot. Would there be any issues with piston to valve clearance? Would i need valve springs? And do you know when the cam would be back in stock? I gotta say, the Leo Vince does look sick. Im gonna build an Elite, so i might use SSS for that endeavor since ive already talked to them on it, and i may just use you all for the Taotao. Um, is the crank gonna snap tho? Id have to imagine this kit is at least 100cc or over, and i really dont want the crank snapping. Ive heard its a common problem on these little 50s 😂😭

Did the most necessary mod to these Taotaos....deleting that damn ugly headlight and dash! Shes starting to look like my old bike now.... Tweaking the carb, but its still dogshit slow. And Mr. Electric Impact wont get the variator nut off, and the nut looks slightly round, oh fun -_- And yes, it, and i still suck at wheelies Old bike is on the bottom for comparison

Took lights, and fenders, and the big ugly turn signal panel off. Readjusted the front piece, gonna try to cut the back more flush down the sides, but its fine for now. Gotta put lights on it cause my buddys 150 locked up last night, so hes gonna be riding this till we can put in a new motor. Its kinda sad looking at this lil thing now, it looks just like my Taotao 155 that wont be running till spring 😭
I like the stripped stunt look though. Looks like a lil ripper!

A good idea is the QMB stroker... but it's in production and currently out of stock. production on these little cranks takes forever, so I should have them back in stock in... spring maybe? Anyway, here's a link. www.partsforscooters.com/169-239_Crankshaft_QMB139I'm also working on getting the Naraku HD stock replacement crank here as soon as possible, but don't yet have a link for that. Upgrading crank bearings isnt really an option for me. This motor has turned super high rpms and has never missed a beat though

I guess run it till it scatters it self then!.Those folks have seen it time and time again and know what the failure points are..I'm not a 4stroke guy at heart, but make my living working on them(aviation)..From my brief studies of the 139qmb and gy6 motors, their weak points are a poor oiling system and cheap materials..

Thats why im holding off for now, figuring out as much as i can. This motor is gonna go in my sisters bike, so itll still be built. But this bike will be the new home for my baby. The 155 motor from my taotao that got destroyed

Lol@ softer than Seal's "kiss from a rose" 😄😄😁 that's fuckin great man! Anyway back to the OP... I like the theme of taking the most accessible gy6 and upgrading it as cheap and easy as possible. I think you will have lots of interest with YouTube videos exploring that topic. I would imagine there are lots of guys out there who are just like me (and maybe you), who are forced for whatever reason to ride one of these pieces of shit and don't have multiple bikes and a lift in garage etc, and need something that's NOT super degrading to drive, but can't afford it to break down because they wanted the *100cc bbk or they didn't know how to tune and fried their rings. I'm at a loss as to how you could even dream of doing wheelies with that thing. I'm guessing it's not stock since the kid you got it from has evolved from a 50 to a 150. It sounds like he likes aftermarket performance as well as the next guy. Looking forward to seeing your results. Oh btw I've had the same issue with a crankshaft nut rounding off... I carefully cut it off with an angle grinder. This is before I had a rotary tool. It can be done there's just no room for error. Also, the 12 volt impact from harbor freight works well it's under 30 bucks and you should be able to take care of all your transmission needs....
